February

Nothing exciting to report this month.   The weather has been unusually cold and then unusually hot.

We enjoy sitting outside in the warm sun when the air is cold and then sitting in front of the fireplace when the sun goes down.

Taos watches me read, it's a little distracting but.....

happy hour in the waning afternoon sun

fireplace fun

A couple weeks ago it was so cold in the morning that the bird bath gave us a beautiful and interesting growth of ice.

I'm glad I covered up or brought in a few cold sensitive plants.....

As soon as the morning sun hit the outside table, a large white lined sphinx moth started work on the petunias.    Second cup entertainment!

This week, however, the temperature was well above normal.   Way too hot to sit in the sun.....sometimes even too warm to enjoy the shade.    Puzzling, reading and second cup/happy hour inside.

post prandial snooze

Dave had a minor surgical procedure on his ankle Thursday, so sitting inside wasn't a real hardship.   Besides he had a good book and a very attentive nurse by his side - at all times......

February wasn't just filled with around the house, boring activities......Dave did a few more upgrades and tweaks to Beluga.   He likes to keep her in top shape.

The refrigerator has been bedeviling him, taking way too long (in his opinion) to restart after driving and then plugging into shore power.     He removed it in preparation for replacement (ugh) and then thought that perhaps it was the (relatively new) modified sine wave inverter that was causing the problem, not the refrigerator itself.

He bought a new pure sine wave inverter, installed it and - Bob's your uncle!     The refrigerator now restarts in a timely manner.    No new refrigerator needed, so back inside it went.

Beluga's tires were nearing their end of useful life so, before we take off again, he decided to take her to the new Wickenburg Tire shop for 6 new ones.

off they go, without me!

I'm sure there are lots of other little things he's worked on, or changed, or redone also.   Sometimes my eyes just glaze over when he fills me in......

Rocky has taken us on a few short desert drives, looking for Crested Saguaros.  Looking is half the fun, right?   The google gods will not allow me to post a picture of the small, crested arm we eventually found.......

Poppies are beginning

he relaxes in the shade while we explore

multi use trail?

We've also had fun with friends.    Janna and Mike have a sweet little miniature Schnauzer named Kayce.    She just turned 2 and Janna threw a party to celebrate!    Lots of friends, two four footed friends for Kayce, and a yummy brisket dinner served outside in their nice, grassy backyard.   She got lots of presents, Taos insisted we bring her his favorite toy - Audrey!

Audrey

We all enjoyed ourselves, but I think Taos had the best time of all.  Running and playing with two friends, in the grass!     Sorry, no pictures.

Early in February we joined MonaLiza and Steve at Rancho de los Caballeros to celebrate her birthday.

Last week we celebrated Steve's birthday at the same spot only this time Rod and Lisa joined us.   Huge table, good food and wine, lots of great conversation and laughs.    Our waitress was from Verona, Italy and we really enjoyed her banter and recommendations.

Last but definitely not least, Pam and John drove down from Boulder City for a few days.    The first night we (the Wrights, the Banks, and the Lowes) enjoyed what has become our traditional first night dinner from Boulder City's China Bistro.   Pam and John graciously provide this luscious meal for us, and we all eat like little piggies.    Again, no photos - nom nom nom

The next morning, we sat outside with guava cheese pastries and solved all the country's problems.

That taken care of, we piled in the Jeep and set off into the desert with a very loose destination.   A natural arch!

Taos enjoys the ride in his own way.   Sound asleep in the back of the Jeep.   He reappears when we stop to explore then returns to snore city as soon as the Jeep gets moving again.    An easy traveling companion.

We had two methods of navigations with us.   A chamber of commerce book and my OnX off road online phone map.     Dave and I had used the book once before to look for this arch (alternately named Natural Arch and Escondido Arch) with no luck.    We decided we'd use both methods and see which arch we came to first.   We weren't exactly sure if there were two or just one with two names.....

Needless to say, it took quite a while but in the end the book was abandoned with disgust, and the arch was located using the OnX map. (Although we did have to send Pam out on foot finally!)

TA DA!

She sent John up - for scale you know......

After our successful find and drive back through the beautiful desert, we shared a bbq dinner, taken out from the Hassayampa BBQ restaurant, and retired for the night.     They left in the morning.   A short but sweet visit!

That's what we've been up to.

I love these Arizona skies

Here's Annie....

  2. That photo of Annie--she is adorable! Oh dear--refrigerator out, refrigerator in--Mike said he learned a lot when installing solar on our trailer we pulled with the motorhome--pure sine way is the way to go. And it is too dang hot!! Too hot to walk in the desert (snakes), too hot to sit on the shaded porch! Hope the ankle heals quickly! That Taos--he is the best! Kayce is also a good traveler.

    1. Annie is a cutie, we can't wait to see her this summer. Hopefully the pure sine wave will do the trick. Beluga came with the modified one so - who knew? Sounds like the weather is due for a drop in temps the end of this week but you'll be heading north soon, right?

  4. I love the photo of Annie! Her pretty curls are getting longer and she is getting taller and growing up so fast! For “nothing exciting to report”, you guys sure had lots of fun with friends, adventures, and upgrades. Hoping to see you soon!

  5. I like that picture of Annie too, I think it captures her personality. The months fly by and I forget what we did and where we went until I re read the blog. February wasn't so uneventful I guess!
    See you soon.

  6. Geez -- you packed a lot into one month. My favorite picture? Ahh....Dave and the fireplace fun with Taos in his lap. That's a keeper. Frame it -- so very sweet. And the one with Taos next to Dave in the mirror of the bathroom - so attentive and present always. What a sweet relationship. Of course, little Annie! Wow! Those curls, that expression, in the crook of a tree! Very special - bet you can hardly wait to wrap your arms around that little one. On the road again soon, right. CindyP

    1. "On the road again soon" has been delayed a bit this year.....Dave is scheduled for a knee replacement early April so we'll have to wait a few weeks to get Beluga on the road!

  7. If that's "nothing exciting," I'll take it. Relaxing days with books and puzzles, beautiful drives for natural treasure hunts, good food and celebrations with best friends, a lovable Velcro dog, and an adorable grand-toddler. A life full of rich blessings! 💙

  8. I love the picture of Taos watching you read, and the pictures of the frozen bird bath are sooo cool! Don't you love it when hubby figures out a way to save money ... good job on the fridge Dave ... and I hope your ankle heals up nicely. And Annie, as always, is adorable :-)

  9. It definitely was a roller coaster with temps. As always we had a great visit to one of our favorite RV spots. The hosts are wonderful and very accommodating. They always have desert adventure at the ready for us. So glad this adventure was successful:) We especial enjoy the visit with their furry companion. Taos does love his dad. He was trained to guide him after all. He's such a great Jeep rider...sleeper! Hope the ankle is healing nicely. Awww, Annie is too cute.

    1. This RV park only allows certain people, people who arrive bearing Chinese food definitely have first choice of sites..... I think, though, that the owners would welcome you even without China Bistro goodies.

  10. I'm not sure I even remember February, but it's great fun to catch up with what you three-plus-friends were up to! I'm so glad Beluga still keeps Dave busy - he's so handy! Love the Dave and Taos pic at the mirror, priceless. The arch search reminded me of you four searching for the arches at Alabama Hills in 2015 - and our next day search for them in Darwin :-)))) Miss Annie is a fashion maven.

    1. Hi Jodee! Yes, February already seems to be a long way behind us doesn't it! Beluga is still keeping Dave busy, even this morning a new "thing" cropped up, ugh... I remember our times together, such fun days.

  11. Wait? You live near Mike and Janna? Who knew! That is a fact that I will never forget now! Toas is the kind of dog that I always wish that I had. We have had some good dogs, I think our golden was the most attentive and loving. Love that picture of Toas on Dave's lap.

  12. Yep, we live just a few minutes away! I wish we knew you would be in town; it would have been fun to meet up. Next time? Taos is a very unusual dog to be sure. We've had many, many labs and goldens in our life and they've all been great in their own ways. Never had one this laid back and chill. He'll calmly and quietly accept anything we give him and go wherever we ask. And he loves Dave so very much. If Dave sits on the floor, Taos walks over and slowly but definitely climbs up on his lap or curls up under his arm if he's lying in front of the fireplace. No questions asked!
