I touched on our two week stay in Astoria in an earlier post. Here are some pictures taken during that stay. We love Astoria, it's beaches (drivable ones!) it's great, fresh seafood, the seafaring ships and commerce, the surrounding mountains, etc. The weather was perfect, despite the forecast for a week of rain! Fog in the mornings, mostly blue skies for the rest of the day, pretty sunsets from our site at the Lewis and Clark RV Resort.

Stinky, but interesting! All that remains of a 53 ft. Sperm whale hit and killed by a freighter |

It's not all about the beach, right? |
We found another car show in Seaside, Oregon. Much smaller than the first one in Longbeach, but fun nonetheless.

Astoria, we'll be back.....
I did not know you could drive the beaches there! I love that picture of "Natures Patterns" I did not know what it was a first.
ReplyDeleteNot all the coasts' beaches are drivable, but the ones around Astoria are! (I have a map of where they all are....) The sand patterns (natures patterns) were beautiful and mathematical don't you think?
DeleteI thought the photo "Natures Patterns" was your couch fabric until I saw the caption! :) :) Have loved all your photos in the last three blog posts. I live vicariously through all your dining photos, you guys find the best restaurants! I love the Oregon coast, Mike not so much!
ReplyDeleteThe Oregon coast is one of our favorite places. Why doesn't Mike like it? So many places to be alone with nature. Speaking of nature, aren't the patterns in the sand beautiful?
ReplyDeleteHis experience with the Oregon coast was difficult--we headed out of Portland to the coast on a beautiful, sunny Sunday--us and a million other people. We were in a 40 foot motorhome pulling the jeep. The small towns in between were filled with people who had no regard for our inability to stop on a dime. He has never recovered! :) :) We did stay on the Oregon coast a couple years ago in an AirBnB with Louanne and Dan. Michael did much better that time--so there is hope! :)
DeleteAll your captures are just magical and make me want to be back there. It really is such a perfect place. The whale is huge (of course, but wow!). The pic after that of Dave is gorgeous and whispers serenity. The colors of the sea lion and the sunset are so rich and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jodee, you can see why it's a favorite place.
DeleteYum, thank you for sharing your fish and chips even through your picture. The Oregon Coast has many interesting and beautiful scenery. I felt sorry for the sperm whale but :(
ReplyDeleteHappy to share!
DeleteJust a great big WOW Sue! I LOVE the patterns in the sand and the sand dollars the best! Although the tuna and chips looks dang good too. We used to drive on the beach in St. Augustine, Daytona and in Galveston…it’s so much fun! We actually got stuck once on the Harley in St Augustine. There is nothing quite so yummy as fresh seafood/fish at the beach!
ReplyDeleteDriving on the beach is great, it allows you to find the perfect alone spot. You've got one on us though....driving a motorcycle on the beach - what devils you were! It's a real treat to find lots of beautiful sand dollars.
DeleteAs usual, I have been negligent in catching up with your posts, but I just spent a delightful time with my morning cuppa doing just that. So many pretty sights you've seen over your eventful summer and many that are so familiar to us. We agree with your assessment of Leavenworth -- too "made." And we've been to St. John's Bakery a couple times -- such an odd place for it to exist let alone thrive, isn't it? We'll be heading to Winthrop ourselves soon for a long-anticipated Larch March. It's been another summer of near-misses with so many friends passing through parts of WA! Happy to see Taos doing well (not surprising with the great start you gave him,) and any picture of that cutie-bug granddaughter is always welcome. Another fantastic summer under your belts!
ReplyDeleteLarch March! We were lamenting our difficulties finding a parking spot in some of the more popular spots in the Park and our Twisp hotel hostess said "just wait til Larch March!" You certainly live in a spectacular part of the country.
DeleteAstoria is one of our favorite Oregon coastal towns, too. It's so beautiful, and the town is so sweet, with just enough interesting things to do, beautiful beaches, and good restaurants. Two weeks there sounds heavenly! And I'm so glad you had good weather. Is the Blue Scorcher Bakery still there? P.S. My comment on your first September post must be in your spam folder :-(
ReplyDeleteWe always enjoy our stays in Astoria for all the reasons you mention. Yes, the Blue Scorcher is still there, and we were customers often! I just checked "comments awaiting moderation" and....there you were! I honestly don't know who moderates the comments though....
