Still Wickenburg

We're happy to say that we both had our second Moderna Covid shots and experienced relatively little side affect from it.    We felt a little tired the next day and used that excuse to take a lovely mid-day snooze but nothing else happened.     We ate a normal dinner and slept through the night.    It's in the rear view mirror now and we're happy campers.

Dave did not have the epidural injection scheduled for the same day, as was originally planned.    The doctors both said they didn't know if it would compromise the Covid immunization so we decided to not take that chance.   One thing at a time.   He's scheduled for the steroid injection on April 2 now....finger's crossed that it works for him.

Life has been relatively quiet and slow here.   No explorations or visits with anyone.   The weather has been lovely and we've done a lot of reading in the sun.    The trees next to us have leafed out and are now home to lots of bird activity, which we always enjoy.

There is some news, however.     We have accepted a great offer on our sweet lakeside cottage and will close on the sale very soon.

Keeping or selling, keeping or selling....that has been the subject of  second cup and happy hour conversations between us for some time now.    We both love the cottage and the lake.    We love the beautiful New York summers and our dear friends there.      What we don't love, however, is the long stressful drive across the country twice a year.    We love the west, have loved it since our first cross country trip in 1971.     If it was up to Dave, we would have moved to Arizona many years ago.     The "crossings" are always during the worst weather months for traveling the way we do.   I can't say how many times we've danced between fronts that were throwing tornados in our path, or halted in our tracks in order to stay put during an early spring/early fall ice storm instead of meeting it on the road.      Making sure we stopped for the night at a campground with a storm shelter had become the norm.  Exhausting.

We're absolutely NOT finished with traveling though.    We feel that the time is right to move our "home base" from the east to the west.     We hope to find a place in Arizona to spend most of the winter (with a few MH visits to favorite places nearby) and then travel for the late spring, summer and early fall.    We aren't done with the Pacific Northwest area and since Jesse and Erin have recently moved up there, our timing seems perfect.

Lots of balls in the air for us right now.    Did I say "quiet and slow"?    Perhaps not.

  1. Bittersweet like so many big life changes. Avoiding that dangerous trek across the country will be a big relief for both of you. And open up lots of options for summer travels elsewhere! Glad you're looking toward winters in Arizona with so many of us :-)

  2. WOW! Didn't see that coming, I thought the lake cottage was your 'forever' home. AZ will give you a base for your west coast travels.

    1. I think "part time" is about perfect for these days. I look forward to seeing you on the road again....will you pick up your blog?

  4. That was a big decision to make but I'm certain that you will feel better with your choice.
We also find the cross country trek stressful while dodging the big storms.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Dave says he already feels better having finally made that decision! When do you think you'll be able to move around again?

  5. It's hard making a choice between places you love, isn't it? It seems like you were getting some gentle nudges in the direction of the west, though, with the sale of your sweet cottage and Jesse and Erin relocating to the Pacific Northwest. How fun to have a new home base for the winter! Lots of new adventures ahead. Hugs to you three. :-)

    1. Yes, it was a hard decision for me. I'm happily looking "forward" now and not back (well, not too often). It will be fun to find a new base and to travel to new places in the summer. Sure do wish we had picked bases in the same quadrant of the country though.....see you on the road sounds a little distant right now.

  6. Congratulations! Those “BIG” decisions are hard to make, but like you Joe and I knew from the first time we visited AZ that we wanted to live here. We are so thrilled to have a home, but like you and Dave, we still have the desire to roll!
Lewis looks great...a-little more grey...but aren’t we all (thank goodness)! I call that distinguished and Lewis is quite distinguished and more! Happy house hunting!

    1. "a little more grey" beats the alternatives! We hope to see you on the road somewhere, and if not, we'll have to make a trip down to Tucson !

  8. Big change! Which one of you had to break the news about no more dock-jumping to Lew? I hope (know) you'll be very happy in AZ, and it certainly makes it easier for us to find you someday!

    1. Shhhhh, he doesn't know. He never knows where we'll be until we open Beluga's door and let him out! We'll be less of a moving target in the winter now, so I hope you will come to see us! And, we may even cross paths in the summer time, on the road! Fun, fun, fun!

  9. Glad you have lots of birds to keep life exciting while "patiently" waiting for relief. I do beleive Lew needs to visit hair stylist. Or maybe Gramma Pamma so she can poof his top do with lots of pets!

    1. Astute observation.....Lew does need a visit from Mr. David's A-1 Mobil Repair and Beauty Salon. I have a call in to him right now. I won't tell Lew you said that though, he is very sensitive about his looks, especially as he gets older :)

  10. Back in civilization (we were in Death Valley) and catching up on blogs.... I can completely understand your desire to head west. If it were up to us, we'd stay out west permanently too. The long schlep back east every year gets exhausting, and with a home base in AZ, you'll have easy access to so many incredible sights. You'll simply never get bored. It will be the best of all worlds. I'm excited for you guys! Onward!!

  11. Wow had no idea you were thinking of selling your place. That had to be hard, you both have worked to tirelessly to get it the way you wanted. I know you'll find the right place to land! -Sherry in MT

    1. The idea of building out the second bedroom downstairs was always done with sort of a nod toward making it more salable, but a situation came up that we realized was just too perfect for us to pass up. Dave has always wanted to move west and, suddenly, the oportunity laid at our feet....new adventures ahead!
