November

Nothing really new or exciting going on.   Continuing to make the house and yard our own, visiting with friends (old and new), meeting two little neighbors, making introductory visits with dentist and eye dr.,  and just generally enjoying our time together.   The FedEx, UPS and Amazon delivery people know us by name.

I carved out a spot to be able to work on a puzzle, or puzzles.  I hope I get this one finished before Jesse and Erin come for the holidays, I bought a new one for us all to do....It's tradition.

The family across the street from us has twin boys, about 7 years old, Pearce and Jones.    They're sweet little guys, homeschooled and very curious.    Dave was working in the garage the other day, with the door open.     The boys quietly came across the street, introduced themselves and offered a gift for both of us....hand made bracelets.     I had trouble putting mine on and Jones quickly stepped in to help.....

At long last, our couch arrived.   We ordered it (and a couple leather chairs) in May!

Lewis promptly claimed it, he's been pestering us for something more comfortable to snooze on....

He lets us sit with him, if there is room.    He feels the chairs will be for us, the couch for him.   We don't like to argue with him, he's usually right.

I've been planting a few flowers around in the back yard, for bits of color in the brown and green desert. Lew recognized one of his old friends from the lake and tries to keep her company when he's relaxing outside.

Dave has been figuring out his part of the fireplace installation.   Literally figuring.   Lots of paper and pencils and measuring tapes and chalk lines, etc.    Today he made his first cut in the wall.... The unit is promised to arrive at the Fireplace store in a couple weeks and we have an installation date in early December.    Please keep your finger's crossed that it does come in and is not in one of the cargo boxes piled on a container ship somewhere.....

Last week MonaLiza and Steve invited us to their house for lunch with a blogger couple we've followed but have never managed to meet.   They were hiking with Joodie and Mark in the morning and would be home by noon.   They wanted to meet Lewis and he hasn't met anyone new in a long time, so we headed over.

We had a wondeful time talking and laughing and eating and birdwatching until it was time to go.   I hope we'll get a chance for another visit on their way through in Spring, they're way cool folks!   Lewis totally agrees....

Friday we invited Steve and MonaLiza here for a little celebration of sorts.   We sat outside and shared a bottle of champagne (actually, it was Prosecco but we weren't picky - it had bubbles!),

Lew wonders why Dave is using those wine glasses for champagne....

I couldn't find my champagne flutes (they're in a box in the garage, I just know it!) so we made due with what we had.

We had ordered take-out smoked prime rib dinners from the Ornery Hog BBQ in town but they called in the afternoon to say that the "chef" was ill and was not preparing food.   Good idea.    I was able to pivot and none of us went hungry.      We'll try for the prime rib again this week.

Before they left, Lewis allowed them to try out "his" couch -  but the price was a kiss.....

Thanksgiving is next week.   This will be the first time in I don't remember how long, that I'll be cooking a turkey in a real oven.   Actually, Dave cooks the turkey (don't ask) but we're both looking forward to it.    Now, if we could just find a can of cranberry sauce somewhere.....

    1. Most important that Lew approves! We're so happy to be able to keep up with friends now that our "base" has moved from east to west!

  2. Holy Moly, I wanna come to your house! Puzzles, bubbly, Lew kisses -- you've got it all! Those two little neighbor boys sound adorable, and I think it was very nice of you to get Lew a pretty new couch. I hope your fireplace arrives as anticipated and that you can find some cranberry sauce. If I had known, I would've kept a lookout. We think you're way-cool, too, and really hope our Spring get-together happens. If not, you know where to find us ;)

    1. We didn't know of the "great Wickenburg cranberry sauce shortage" until we went looking yesterday. I was sure we had a can in Beluga....but no - of course not!
We'll just have to make sure we have another southern get-together this year. We'll stay in touch.....

  3. I so hope all your furniture and fireplace arrive before your family comes! Do you have beds?? I love bubbles--my favorite drink--not sure if it's the bubbles or because I love the champagne glasses I have.

    1. We have beds! We actually had everything we needed except the couch and chairs but we're working that out. I have boxes and boxes of stuff in the garage but the one labeled "champagne glasses" was behind a couple other ones so I couldn't see it. I have them now so bring on New Year's Eve!

  4. Cool reflection in the glass with the bubbles. But you didn’t tell us what you were celebrating! I like the way Lewis thinks. Fingers crossed the fireplace is in place and the rest of your furniture comes for the holidays.

  5. Lewis should write a book titled "A Dog's Guide to Living the Life"... sleeping in the sunshine, making the brand new sofa his own, being the most popular guy everywhere he goes!! Love it! Glad you all got to hang out and things are coming together. And I can't wait to see the fireplace when it's all installed. I bet it will look great!

  6. I won't read this to Lewis....we don't want him to get a big head. I can't wait to see the fireplace finished, either. Do you have your fingers crossed?

  7. Well, I'm glad you finally got Lewis a sofa! LOL! I'm sure he will be delighted when the fireplace is completed, too. Is he supervising the work?

So fun seeing more photos of good friends having good times together. But it does make me miss all of you even more. Have fun cooking your turkey in a real oven!

    1. Yes he is supervising....from the couch. Roasting a turkey in this oven will be fun....the temperature is at least 25 degrees off and it doesn't seem to hold for long!

  8. Love how Lew immediately made the sofa his own. Of course he has been accustomed to having a sofa for his comfort. I'm sure he'll be glad when you get YOUR chairs and leave him alone. Glad you finally got to meet Mark and Joodie. They are a very fun couple. Good to see things are moving along making the house your home. Making the first cut is always soooo scary!! Fingers crossed on the firebox!!

  10. I just checked, Amazon has cranberry jelly. Of course, they're charging an arm and a leg for it, but desperate times........
Lewis looks totally and completely happy about the couch.

    1. As soon as I talked about there being a shortage.....it magically appeared in the stores! We now have plenty but thanks for thinking of Dave. (he's the one who wanted this delicacy)

  11. Usually right? LOLOLOL! Love the new couch, perfect pattern. Our fireplace hasn't progressed so yours may be done before ours - contractor's had some family health issues so we're being patient (and hopeful). Great fun that more bloggers are finding you :-)) The pic of Steven and ML w Lewis is priceless.
