It's been three and a half weeks since Dave's knee replacement surgery and he's pretty much back to normal. He's tossed aside the walker and regularly forgets to use the cane he's been given. PT folks are very happy with his progress, and he continues to work hard on the at home exercises.
Last week Pam and John came down for a few days to visit and help Dave with a project that required more manpower.
Long story, sort of short.... Beluga's refrigerator died and we've been going round and round with Best Buy, Spencer's, Lowes, etc., trying to get a replacement. One is promised, paid for and scheduled for delivery. As that date approaches and arrangements are made on this end, the store emails that the delivery will be delayed - often by MONTHS. We cancel the order, place another somewhere else and the same thing happens again.
We can't leave for the summer with no refrigerator, so we settle on a different brand, open box one that will fit well enough, and drive into Phoenix to pick it up (using Steve's truck.....). This story has gone on long enough so suffice it to say Home Depot finally came up with the original exact match unit and delivered it immediately! Now we have two new refrigerators sitting inside Beluga's garage, an out of order one inside Beluga and a man with a fresh knee replacement!
This is where friends come in, dear friends. John and Pam arrived on Wednesday with the traditional delicious Chinese dinner from Boulder City's China Bistro. Steve and MonaLiza came over and we all enjoyed the nice weather and company outside on the patio. We ate and talked until the moon rose.....
Taos is as happy as he can be, all his favorite people were here and one of them had a pocket full of treats.....
The next morning Dave and John loaded the "just in case" refrigerator into the Jeep and drove it back into Phoenix for a return. One down, three to go. Pam and I prepped the evenings dinner while they were gone.
Later in the day Steve and MonaLiza came back over, but before dinner was served, they helped take the dead refrigerator out of Beluga and put the nice new one in!
In addition to her physical help, MonaLiza brought over a colorful veggie salad to eat with our Pork Tenderloin and cheesy potatoes.
Once again I say, these four are such good friends.
I didn't take any photos at dinner, we all just ate and laughed and enjoyed the company and a job well done.
After Pam and John left our luxurious, campground on Friday, Dave and I loaded the "dead" refrigerator and took it to the salvage yard! All done......

Now we're set to leave as soon as he gets the all clear from Dr. Campbell on June 2. Dave says it will be his best birthday present!
Meanwhile, here's Annie!

I'm glad you were able to get a replacement fridge, and that you have good friends to help out :-)
ReplyDeleteyes, we're thankful for good friends and happy to finally put a period on the refrigerator saga!
DeleteIt's great that we are only a few hours away and you have the perfect spot for us. Our new smaller home sure makes it a lot easier. We always enjoy our time with our Wickenburg friends. Glad we could be there to help:) Thanks for a very yummy dinner. Annie is looking so springy:)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be just a few hours away. We enjoy our Nevada campsite also, just perfect for us and....they have a pool! Thanks again for your help and support.
DeleteWell, I just want to say "Go,Dave!" Fastest knee replacement recovery -- that man is a keeper!. But also will say "Go, MonaLiza!!!!" Very impressive next to that refrigerator coming out of the MH. What a woman! Now ...on to more summer travels. I bet I can guess whose pocket held all those dog treats! CindyP
ReplyDeleteHe's motivated that's for sure! I bet you're right Cindy..... Wish you were here too!
DeleteGood morning Sue! Great news to read that Dave has made such a speedy recovery. But his lifting refrigerators was quite the surprise. It’s always nice to see those big smiles sitting around the table and everyone having a great time. MonaLisa’s veggie salad looks yummy! I’m with Cindy…I bet I can guess whose pocket was full of treats! And Taos looks quite content! I love the way Annie is studying the flowers and her curls under the “boggin”. And I know you and Dave are counting down the days…
ReplyDeleteThanks Gay. Fingers crossed that Dave's recovery continues along the way it has been and we'll be off in no time! Using a dolly and carefully calculating distances resulted in a rather easy refrigerator/salvage yard move relatively easy. Only good friends could get the new one inside Beluga however and we're so thankful for them. Annie loves exploring the world and everything in it, including mud puddles and rocks!
DeleteI can't believe you guys got the frig in through the door. Ours went in via a removed window and a fork lift. Sounds like you all had an excellent work party. Annie is darling as ever.
ReplyDeleteWe used that method to take the RV refrigerator out (in 2017) but this time it was just swapping the smaller residential one with another exact match so Dave measured carefully and it worked just fine (with help from friends....) !
DeleteI love the title of this post! Those are good friends indeed! And of course we can all guess which friend has the pocket full of treats! I'm starting to be recognized by the dogs in our circle as "that lady has treats in her pocket!" The only time we've had to change out a RV refrigerator--we were in a resort outside San Antonio and had formed friendships with lots of motorcycle riding guys--they were good help!! I too am amazed that Dave has progressed so well--but then he's motivated and his nurse is motivated!
ReplyDeleteBeluga is an old gal, so this is the second time we've changed out refrigerators but we're happy campers now!
ReplyDelete"Treat Lady", that's what we all have in common! Even Champ at Physical Therapy has my number and stares, quietly, at me if I go with Dave! I guess there are worse things to be called, eh?
Champ is a cool dog! And yes, there are worse things to be called! :)
DeleteGood news all around! Nice to have that fridge taken care of, what a pain though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim. The fridge situation was a pain, to be sure, but wouldn't have been such a problem without the knee complications. But....good friends came through and now it's in and working....
DeleteWOW!!!! Dave's recovery is seriously impressive. I don't know anyone who has recovered so quickly from knee replacement surgery, but then again, it's Dave, so it makes sense, lol. So glad everything is going so well for you guys. My computer went kaput and I just got a new one, so I'm catching up with my online friends. My new computer has a fun little slideshow that it randomly shows me every day, and the one that came up yesterday was from your visit in 2023. ❤️ Love seeing you six together! Good friends, indeed.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel! Glad you're back and with a new computer yet! I enjoy seeing the tiny snippets of your lives and travels that Eric posts on FB, it makes me feel closer.... Excited for your new acquisition and I (we) hope that it will bring you out this way in the future! And....maybe we'll be back east for a visit next year, who knows?
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping for both!! XOXO
DeleteWow! Dave is a superman! I was shocked to see him moving that refrigerator. He is a motivated man with excellent caregivers. Ha ha ha I looked liked i really help :) We are always glad to be of help to our dear friends. -ML
ReplyDeleteHe's my superman for sure! Thanks again for always being where we need you....
DeleteGreat job at getting the refrigerator through the door! Lovely photos. Thank you so much for sharing, and warm greetings from a retired lady (baby boomer) living in Montreal, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It worked out well all in all. Now it's installed and working well.
ReplyDeleteMuch more fun in the reading than the doing I imagine, but so great it's done now summer can happen. I'm not surprised at all that Dave powered through his recovery. Afterall he has things to do and places to go :-)) Can't wait to see where you get up to this year. Miss Annie never fails to make me smile. I think I have that same hat :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, more fun in the reading than the doing, for me at least! I was worried that someone would get hurt but they were all professionals!
DeleteHopefully your hat is gathering mothballs these days!
I hope we'll see you this fall when we come through on our way home! I'll stay in touch.
Let me add my YOWZA to Dave's speedy recovery! Unprecedented to say the least! It's so nice to have dependable, dear friends when the going gets tough, but I'd expect nothing less for two dear folks like you and Dave. Happy travels with your new fridge!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joodie...Dave is a remarkable guy on many fronts! He's pretty much back to normal, taking his daily walks and getting the house ready to leave next week....
