We always enjoy our stays in Eugene. Jesse and Erin went to school there some years ago, so we consequently spent lots of time in that area, got to know it pretty well. Once again, we made Armitage County Park our home.
This visit was a short one, mainly a stop between the coast and the rest of our inland adventures. We couldn't pass by and not stop, could we?
As you've come to expect, we ate well, drank a little wine, explored a bit and relaxed before heading on to Ashland.

Ashland, Oregon was our next destination. We always stay at Emigrant Lake County Park, a quiet and peaceful spot above Emigrant Lake. The views are lovely and it's filled with birds.

Beautiful sunsets each evening. We even got to watch the spectacular lunar eclipse! My phone just couldn't believe what it was seeing so it refused to try to photograph it....grrrr.
We just ignore it's downside, the nasty stickers all over the ground. Taos managed to sidestep them carefully, but we still remember our old Sasha having a fit when she encountered them.
As we drove in this time, however, we were reminded how tenuous life can be. First off, the lake levels were so very low. This is a reservoir and the water is used throughout the season, we know that, but this year we were surprised.
And....we saw something no rv'r wants to think about or actually see in a site in another loop.

We never found out what happened here, and upon our return from a day's exploration it was completely removed and the site cleaned. Except for the burned trees and grass outline.....
We left Emigrant Lake yesterday morning and drove through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California to our next quick stop in Susanville.

We've been here at the Susanville RV Park many times, it's very nice and green and convenient to what we need to restock for the next portion of our drive, along "the loneliest road in America"..... Stay tuned!

So glad your travels are going smoothly without any wildfires in you path. Good wine and food...nothing else needed. Wow! Emigrant is really, really low. Almost dry:( A completely burned RV. Scary! I can't believe it didn't spread. Luckily, our weather is starting cool (well, below 100). Hope it stays as you move inland. I had to laugh at Annie:))) Someone isn't very happy about things not going her way. Safe travels!!
ReplyDeletewe've managed to change routes to avoid fires in our path so far, so good! Tomorrow we take rt 395 down through Reno with our finger's crossed. The entire highway was closed because of the terrible Hawk Fire recently.

Lest anyone thing Annie is a perfect little angel, she does give us that face occasionally!
It’s so nice to have places you know and trust to call home. It is sad the lake is so low, but the second photo is really pretty with the lighting. Also sad to see the burned forest. We once saw a motor home on fire at a RV Resort in Texas Hills country. It’s quite a site to see and another time we saw a RV after a tree fell on it in San Diego…it fell right in the middle and both ends were off the ground! This isn’t a life for timid folks is it? Fingers crossed for safe travels and for nice weather as you head inland! I love the photo of Annie! Even angry, those gorgeous eyes and ringlets put a smile on my face!
ReplyDeleteThat's what we enjoy about these travels....the combination of familiar stops and new places to explore. They both have their merits. You know, I never think of myself as particularly brave, but when you really think about what could happen in this way of travel, maybe I AM! Thanks Gay!

Yes, we try to be as careful as one can but sometimes shit happens. I hope those folks were ok.
Ugh, goatheads! Good for Taos being nimble! So sad to see all the low reservoirs. The rivers in our neck of the woods are incredibly low--not sure how the fish are surviving in some! A RV fire has always concerned me--Mike is very careful about keeping our refrigerator "stuff" clean--they say that's where most RV fires start. Scary! And that Annie photo is a keeper! Safe travels!

DeleteWe were always extra careful when we still had an RV refrigerator, I thought about fire often.
She was ramping up in that photo, so I asked her to make her scariest face and she really produced! Stopped the brewing tantrum and turned it into giggles!
Wow, I'm impressed you allowed yourself to be photographed sans sunglasses! It made me chuckle when your phone refused to capture the lunar eclipse. Angry Annie, maybe you forgot to give her something or was expecting something and was not there. - ML
