One of My Favorite Things!

We tried to take an alternate route this morning, tried to avoid I-26, but we got turned around and ended up right back on the interstate.   Mostly the traffic was light except one spot where everyone was stopped for a nasty looking accident.   We made the best of the relatively short delay....

We had second cup "on the road", complete with a couple Christmas cookies!

We arrived in Fernandina Beach, Florida around 2 this afternoon and checked in to the Marriott Residence Inn.   The nice lady at the desk upgraded us to a one bedroom suite so we're all happy little travelers tonight.

This hotel backs up to a beautiful greenway so we took the dogs for a long walk before we settled them in the room and left to find the beach.   Turtles splashed into the waterway as we passed, and birds high in the trees welcomed us back.

Ahhhhhh.   We have soft, white sand on the jeep's floor mats again, one of my favorite things!     Small pleasures.

After a yummy dinner of tapas and Spanish wine tonight we'll doze in front of the TV and tomorrow we'll finish our journey to Venice.    Its not like traveling in Beluga, but it will do!

  1. I am sure it was a great joy to finally stand on the sand to watch and smell the beautiful ocean:) Just think...while you are looking at the ocean, we'll be looking at the ocean but on the opposite side of our country. I think we will both be smiling.

I saw the Christmas tin even before I read the words:) Yum!!

  4. Even short traffic jams are made better with Christmas cookies - add some coffee and one hardly cares if the other cars every move :-) So happy you're getting some beach time. Love that sand in our Jeep - and the smell of wet dog is just part of the adventure!
