Friday

Friday was a fairly uneventful day followed by a lovely evening followed by a scary night.

Another cool, but sunny day had us hanging around Beluga, doing what we do best, relaxing,  Relaxing from what, I don't know, but we do enjoy it!

You'll remember that we returned to Quartzsite to buy the two new chairs I had been thinking about since we drove away the first time.  When we got back to the RV show, the chairs were gone (of course) but we enjoyed a bit of socializing and romping with Nina, Paul and dear Polly and chalked it up to experience.   Since we're doing so much "relaxing" here at McDowell Mtn. Park, I had plenty of time to track those d amn chairs down on the internet and found out they were warehoused right here in Phoenix.   I ordered them and they arrived yesterday!

We took them out of the boxes, set them up and tried them out.  Perfect!  They even come with their own footstool that turns into a side table - what will China think of next?   As soon as Dave sat down in his, guess who decided he needed to see if the new chair was comfortable for his own curly self?   It passed the Lewis test with flying colors, much more room on Dave's lap now that there is a footstool.

Can I have this chair now Dad, can I, huh?

Later in the afternoon we drove to the Country Club at DC Ranch to meet Linda and Dave for dinner.   The restaurant is in a beautiful clubhouse and we sat at the lively bar for a long while catching up.   Dinner was in the serene dining room, white tablecloth, apricot tulips on each table and a wonderful menu.   After a luscious steak dinner and a couple bottles of good Sangiovese we parted with promises to meet for golf before we leave the area.    We took the longer way back to our campground, opting for the quiet, dark desert rather than the frenetic traffic and bright lights of Scottsdale proper.   I didn't post anything last night because we fell happily into bed as soon as we took care of our patient pooches.

About 3:00 in the morning we were awakened by Beluga rocking and shuddering.   I asked Dave if he thought we should bring in the slides, to keep the toppers safe from the ferocious winds.  He didn't answer....he was already outside in the pelting rain and probably 50 mph winds, stowing all our outside stuff.
He could barely stand up and was soaked when he came back in and crawled back in bed.   The dogs were nervous and stayed close and we were all awake for a long time, waiting for I don't know what.....Its a scary thing to be in the desert in such a storm.

We awoke to heavy clouds, shafts of sunlight and snow on the distant mountains!   The only casualty was our hummingbird feeder, I fear its flown to the land of Oz.

  1. Gee, great men think alike! John was outside at 4:00 AM putting the bikes under a slide and covering them. Mine had fallen over and I forgot to take my bike bag off. But, John rescued everything. We put the chairs away because of the rain, I don't know why we didn't think of the bikes! Duh! I certainly was not getting out of my warm covers to take care of things!

We had dinner with Hans and Lisa lat night. We leave Wednesday so we wanted to touch base once more before we move on. We had great Mexican food and conversation!

Glad you are enjoying your new location. Love the new chairs. Great that Lewis approves:)
