into Texas

We got into Las Cruces on the early side yesterday so we drove a few miles into old Mesilla looking for a good Mexican meal.   Actually we were looking for a good margarita and a couple sopapilla, whatever came in between would be fine.

We drove around the area looking for the recently returned Rio Grande River.  We found it.

We ended up at La Posta, a famous southwestern restaurant occupying a historic building (LaPosta Compound).    After the Civil War the LaPosta Compound was an important stop on the Butterfield Stagecoach Coach Line.   The atmosphere was fun, the food tasty and authentic but not over the top but the margaritas and the dessert were just what we were looking for.

Waitress "can I bring you an order of two sopapilla for dessert?"
"you can bring me an order of four sopapilla for dessert" says he...

After an exciting ride through crazy El Paso today, we've stopped for the night in Balmorhea, Texas,  amidst a full campground of oil workers in muddy white pick ups.   Tomorrow, on to Fredericksburg, Texas for 4 or 5 days.

  2. Nice to see so much more water in the river! El Paso is nuts - I couldn't believe how busy it is. Enjoy the gazillion miles of Texas :-)))
