BCA.......It was too sunny and beautiful to go anywhere today. We had to grocery shop or there would be no lunch for us, but that is all we had on the schedule. Wendy stopped by to invite us for a walk in one of the canyons near Balboa Park after lunch. She left, but a few minutes later, she knocked on the door to say that tomorrow looked better for them, James said it was too nice to go anywhere today!
We said goodbye to our new friends Lisa and Hans and promised to meet up again at Catalina State Park at the end of February. Safe travels guys!
So....scary story in Elba...
Dave's brother Mike was at our nephew's company doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that when his phone rang. It was Arline (his wife) asking if he had contracted with anyone to do some work at the house. Mike said no, so Arline told him that she needed to call 911 then, because there was someone downstairs and a van in the driveway! Mike jumped in his jeep and raced the 5 miles home, his heart in his mouth. He said he turned his fire police scanner off because he was scared of what he might hear. He pulled into his driveway at the same time as the state police. He was told to stay outside and they went in with guns drawn.
Arline was safe. Turns out that while she was on the phone with 911 a big guy smashed in the back door and entered the house - they were face to face! He turned around and ran through the fields, the guy downstairs ran and the van in the driveway took off and picked him up as he emerged onto route 98 and they sped off.
Mike didn't know, at the time, whether the guys were caught or what they might have been after. A really close call for Arline, she's a lucky woman.
I also promised Cindy P I'd talk a little about our upcoming plans. We leave here on Monday, if our mail arrives, and head for a night or two in Yuma, Arizona. Then on to Quartzsite, Arizona to boondock (camp for free) in the desert with 1000's of other RVrs at what is called the Woodstock of RVing. At the end of January vendors set up in the "Big Tent" and anything even remotely relevant to rving or traveling can be had. We don't know what to expect, except that Nina and Paul will be there to show us the ropes and we probably won't want to stay more than a few days! Its something to be experienced, but I think there will be way too many people around for our comfort.
After that its on to Parker, Az. to camp on the shores of the Colorado River for a week, then most of the rest of the month we'll be in the Phoenix area. We look forward to getting together with Dave's former in-house accountant and various family members there. Near Valentine's Day, we'll be outside Scottsdale, Az, and plan on attending the Firebird Raceway NHRA finals (drag racing) and the Westworld International Arabian Horse Show. Tucson (Catalina State Park) and a long overdue visit with an ex neighbor, Carm, will be our last scheduled spot. After that, who knows?
we'll miss these beautiful sunsets over the water when we leave on Monday |
Why not boondocks while in Yuma! We stayed two nights off American Girl Mine Rd. We were just a short drive into Yuma. We stayed just off the road, we didn't go into the desert as far as Nina and Paul but we could see them in the distance.
ReplyDeletePhew....I am so glad that everyone is okay in Elba. What a terrifying experience. This is a crazy world sometimes...good thing they fled when they saw she was home. Will they ever know if they caught those two?
ReplyDeleteFuture plans sound like fun ....pictures please at the Arabian show (you lucky woman!)
And I am pleasantly imagining now that some of those routes you take on Monday will HEAD EAST! Yeahhhh! I bet Lewis and Sasha are jumping for joy too! They are really on my side and want to come home to their cozy little Farm.
Safe journey.
