Sunday

A lazy Sunday morning at the Hillcrest Farmer's market, another thing we'll really miss about San Diego.  Coffee from the orange truck, pastries from the pastry guy and lots of people to watch and beautiful veggies to buy.    We sat next to the clowns who paint little faces and make balloon animals.  They are a "mature" couple and we enjoyed a bit of conversation with our coffee today.   Mrs. Clown had a bit of trouble holding on to her balloons as she worked with them, so I had a few gentle knocks in the head as I tried to enjoy my coffee.

Mr. Clown (they both were dressed as lady clowns, go figure)

As I was swatting at the errant balloons I noticed the name on the nearby tent!...

these beautiful Bird of Paradise plants are everywhere

We bought green onions, Pink Lady apples (yum), dewy fresh green beans, carrots and Meyer lemons (we've become addicted to them).  We also brought home three delicious gluten free deserts from the gluten free desert girl.  Wendy and James introduced us to a raspberry/coconut/chocolate bar that we were wild about, so we bought one, plus a peanut butter/jelly bar and a lemon square.   They should hold us for awhile.

On another food note....we decided we'd have a real California experience for lunch.  We stopped at In-N-Out Burger, bought a sack of burgers and fresh cut fries and took them to the Ocean Beach Dog Beach for some lunchtime entertainment.  It was another beautiful, sunny, warm day so we found a bench and set up our picnic.

the remains of our lunch

The beach was full of people and their assorted dogs having so much fun it was contagious.  We ate and laughed at the antics of dogs, large and small, smooth and hairy, purebreds and muts all doing their own thing.

No sunset today, but get a load of this beautiful blue sky.....We'll surely miss San Diego and can't wait to come back so we can enjoy more of the wonderful  things it has to offer.

We leave tomorrow morning.....

  1. Awww....what a great place! Loved the pix of the dog beach. Are you able to take Sasha and Lewis too sometimes? How does everybody get along?? The sights are lovely ....and yeah....the sky!!! Loved seeing all that blue (since we're into gray and dreary here). cold front hitting tonight (-10 windchill).

So, you're on to the next journey. Safe travels, guys!

  2. I too, loved all the different dog pictures. (and captions) The Bird of Paradise reminded me of Mom's back yard. They grew beautifully there. I loved mornings in her back yard. The smell of all the different fruit blossoms, or picking the fresh lemons, oranges, grapefruit and limes. Her lemons were large and sweet. Roses were a plenty too. Dad had even planted an apple tree that survived many years in Laguna Niguel.
Good name for a farm stand.
I am familiar with the In and Out burgers but I can't say I ever ate one.
I know the rest of your travels will be wonderful. There is so much to see.
Love to you and Dave and the dogs too.
