Monday - moving day

Moving day, Inauguration Day, MLK Day, busy day.  We said good bye to James and Wendy (and wet little Abby), packed up our stuff and broke camp.  We were sad to leave Mission Bay (we know we'll be back) but sort of excited to get on the road again.

We hopped on I-8, the country's southernmost east/west interstate and headed east toward Yuma, Az.    Our drive took us from sea level San Diego, up through the Tecate Divide at about 4000 feet and then down into El Centro which is 50 feet below sea level.  Ears a poppin......

This route took us very close to Mexico in several places and we got to see, first hand, the fence that keeps the big bad Mexican's out......We could hardly believe that there is actually a FENCE!

the black line in the distance is the US/Mexico border fence running through the Imperial Sand Dunes
Our destination was River's Edge Campground in Winterhaven, just outside of Yuma, Arizona.    We thought Winterhaven was in Arizona, but we were wrong - its still California.  We're now in Mountain Standard Time, however, so we're a little closer to home that way.    This park is nothing special, surely, but it will do for a couple nights. We're in a spot with no neighbors on either side and  big trees behind so we can pretend we're where ever we want to be.    It is right on the shores of the Colorado River, but we dasn't take the dogs for a walk there.   No, we're relegated to the designated "dog walk" area.  Never mind, we run into that often enough, its alright.     We get quite a number of TV channels here, trouble is they're mostly Mexican.....

Bad thing - we do miss that sparkling bay right outside our door and those sunsets......
Good thing - we're on the road again!

  1. Isn't that the same park that Hans and Lisa are staying in this week?

Have fun in Yuma! Leaving the water must have been hard. You had a beautiful spot.

  2. Have we all thanked you so much for doing this BLOG! It's fabulous to check and see what's happened in your day; and, I would really miss it if you weren't so committed to posting every day. It really does help with missing you!
