Thursday at Quartzsite

Sprinkles on the roof last night, cloudy morning here off Dome Rock Road in Quartzsite, Az.   No matter, it was the first night we slept with the windows open in quite a while, and it is January you know.

Lewis enthusiastically wishes Nina and Polly Good Morning!

We had a slow morning, not bad, just lazy and slow.  After lunch we drove down into Quartzsite to participate in the great "Q".  Lots of traffic, of all kinds.  We finally found a parking spot in a sandy field and set off in search of the big tent.  We walked through acres of vendors hawking everything from outdoor chairs and rugs, socks, topical botox treatments, wooden walking sticks, kitchen ware, petrified wood and sunglasses to bbq'd turkey legs and home made ice cream.

this little machine was chugging away churning out ice cream
Of course I had to taste some, just a tiny bit

one of the aisles in the big tent
We finally found the huge tent (about 70,000 square feet of space under a sky lit white tent).   It made me feel like I was at the state fair passing miked salespeople demonstrating their miracle whips, their plastic bowl covers, their face creams, waterless cooking systems, etc.  But the tent also held many serious suppliers of all things necessary to rv'rs.  Roadmaster and Blue Ox tow bars, LED light suppliers, carpets and furniture people, awning installers, solar panel companies, Satellite TV providers, tire companies, exhaust brake systems, generator builders, cleaning and polishing suppliers, windshield repair services, plumbing and electrical supplies, to name only the ones I can remember.  If it isn't available there, you don't need it!

you really don't need it....

if you can drive it, you can buy it at the big Q

we didn't see this contraption drive in, but it had plates on it!
It is powered by big jugs of vegetable oil and was manned by some young folks that were having way too much "fun"

row after row of new and used Motorhomes and fifth wheels
I think we looked in each and every one

surely someone needs this "gently used" 3/4 ton Ford pickup limo?

these guys toured in luxury
I wish someone would have pushed me in a stroller, I was exhausted by the time we got back to the jeep

RVs camping everywhere in the desert around the show
We got back to Beluga around 4:30 and went inside to take care of our patient dogs.  I looked out the window and saw sweet Polly waiting for us to come out and play....

Can Lewis come out and play now?
We let the dogs out to play with Polly while we cleaned up a bit and made a G&T.  Lewis had joined Nina and Paul's sunset gathering and made a whole bunch of new friends.   He's become quite the social butterfly here in the desert!     Sasha says hello and plops herself in the middle of everyone just like she was at the office again.

cocktails and conversation outside "the Beast"
not much sun for those solar panels today...

Dave is drinking two fisted again!
After dark we all went our separate ways to our own dinners and evening plans.  Our plans included a quick dinner of hot dogs and some reading, then - you guessed it - early to bed.     Tomorrow we'll go back to the show and see the other RV's we missed today and try to check out a used car lot filled with some pretty dusty, but very interesting old cars (and a few wingless airplanes too!)

  1. My favorite picture: Polly waiting for Lewis. Adorable!!! What a cute shot. My second favorite: the little papillons in the stroller. Of course, Dave drinking 2-fisted made it to the top also! Nice to see you have such a good group of friends in the desert. Good living, Sue!

  2. I can't imagine how excited Polly and Lewis must have been to be together again. All this activity must be helping Lewis get over being shy.

Glad you made it to the tent. It looked so overwhelming to us and we only drove through. The tent sale wasn't open yet. Don't buy too much!
