Sunday - Elkhart,Indiana - finally.....

We got  a bit of a late start this morning, one of Beluga's front tires is losing a bit of air every few days and today Dave found it low during his "pre flight" check.  It necessitated a few extra steps and that, together with the very friendly neighbors, kept us from our scheduled departure time.

The beautiful scenery of the west seems to be behind us now.  I suppose one could say that the endless corn, wheat and soybean fields are beautiful, but they did seem to go on and on and on and on and on...

I underestimated the mileage for today and it turned out to be a very long, tiring drive for us.  And, to top it off, we encountered the incredible Chicago traffic right at our low point.....another forgotten memory of eastern cities.   We were scheduled to meet old friends for dinner tonight.  One last thing I forgot was the time change.  We're now in the Eastern Time Zone, and that made our already late landing in Elkhart one hour further away from the target time.

Needless to say, we didn't get together with Don and Debra tonight.  Luckily they were able to reschedule a few things and will meet us tomorrow night instead.

I think its time for bed, tomorrow is another day.   Hopefully we'll get into the eastern rhythm and have smoother sailing from now on.

and here's the sum of the last few days parts....

  1. How well I remember the drive from Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Getzville, NY. In the 60"s there was no Chicago bypass. then they built it and we were able to avoid going right through the city. In our days of youth that is why we drove all night instead of all day. It is not the most scenic trip there is day or night.

  3. If it is your first time in Elkhart, you will find tons to do! We were parked at the fair grounds and had a wonderful time. Look out for the painted Elk...they are a hoot. The Quilt Gardens are gorgeous this time of year.

  4. Glad you made it to Elkhart, and glad to have met Dave briefly. Hope to see you, too before we both have to leave tomorrow!
