Wednesday - 285 miles closer

Two hundred eighty five miles closer to our next adventure .....

We've landed in Chamberlain, South Dakota after an uneventful day driving through some pretty flat, green countryside.    We're at the Oasis Campground, and are facing the wide Missouri River.   (our view is across the highway, however)    It is very very hot, so we're inside with the air conditioning blasting.

I'm not in a good mood tonight.   I'm really angry and frustrated.  After checking Dave's credit card statement we discovered that someone in Texas has been racking up huge charges on it.,,well over $4,000 worth of gas, food, games and clothing.    TEXAS!!!!!   While we've been using it in Oregon, Montana and Wyoming.   I'm angry that people would do such a thing, how they could use his card when its been in his wallet the whole time, and frustrated that the d amn early fraud warning system we've been struggling with everywhere, hasn't picked up on these charges.   How could we charge gas in Montana and Texas at the same time!!!!   Grrrrr.

I'm going to bed.

  1. The good news is that you have documented, via your blog, all the places you have been, when you were there, etc., so if the CC company has questions about legitimacy of your claim, point them to your blog. Also, you might want to check your credit report....they may have tried to open other credit cards under you name, but they would need more info about you in order to do that...I would still check, it is free to do. Good luck from one who faced ID theft some 10 years ago, and was lucky enough to catch it before it got out of hand. --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)

  2. I am surprised your credit card company didn't catch it and block it. I was hacked on both a credit card and ATM card and both were blocked for usage and I was sent letters about questionable usage. Good luck, they will figure it out. Hackers are everywhere and are very devious.

  3. Great question...how can you be in two places at one time. Some people are just downright nuts and you have proof.

  5. Grrrr. I agree, what a PIA! Also it just disappoints our view of mankind.
Many CC sites will give you the option to get an email notification when there is a charge over an amount you decide. Mine is anything over $100. I am notified.

  6. SAME thing happened to us. Over $2000 charged on the credit card IN SPAIN...and this was after we'd had several blocks on the card and giving specific instructions that we would be travelling only in Oregon for next 3 months. Such a PIA. We're waiting for the credit card fraud to work through the charges now and hope they'll all get reversed.

  7. The credit card company told us that gas stations are the worst place for the skimmers. They get your information, and then send it elsewhere to the bad guys. They can sit on it or use your numbers immediately, so you never know where or when it happened. It's aggravating.
