Friday - back again

Don't ask what happened to the blog yesterday, I don't know...But, I'm here today and we had a spectacular morning.   I've yet to go through the pictures from our boat ride earlier, so I'll leave that for tomorrow.

After the other day's dramatic clouds, Navajo Mountain emerged with a good dusting of snow.
In the center of the picture is the lodge where we caught our boat tour

Beluga is in the center, see her stripes?
After our leisurely morning yesterday, we decided to drive 89 north a bit and see what we could see.   It was still very cold, so the jeep and its overzealous heater sounded like just the ticket.   We drove through a bit of the Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument managed by the BLM on our trip.  We hadn't planned to drive all the way to Kanab, Ut (our next week's campground destination), but thats where we found ourselves.  A fair bit of road construction on the way and the entrance to Crazy Horse RV Camp is a nightmare of uneven pavement and a pretty steep drop off from the pavement.  Hmmm, we'll deal with that next week.

Vermillion Cliffs

As we re-entered the Glen Canyon National Recreation area from the north this time, we found a great new place to explore further this weekend.  The turn off is for Lone Rock, a huge "rock" in the middle of the lake.   Since the lake is probably 300 feet deep right here, its really more of a mountain than a rock, but....thats what someone in the know named it.  There is a wide, sandy beach that allows dry camping and provides lake access.  There were some pretty large motorhomes parked there, so we could do it too!

Lone Rock!
the white mark on most of the rocks around here is the high water line

don't you just want to walk on this beach?

This little Roadtrek was enjoying the solitude of Lone Rock's beach.
eat your heart out Linda/Dave, Tom/Robin, JoAnn!

distant view of campers on the beach, sigh......
Well, I'm doing this post fairly early today and its cocktail time.  Everyone is outside waiting for me. So.....
