thanks for the firewood Debbie and Scott! |
We had a lovely campfire last night, thanks to blogger friends, Debbie and Scott. It was a very pleasant night, starry and warmish. Perfect to sit outside and enjoy the evening.
Well, I never thought I'd say this, but today we took in our bird feeder so birds would NOT come to visit us. The yellow headed blackbirds are so beautiful....
but oh, so very greedy. They woke us up in the morning, squawking, whistling, screaming, cackling, clicking and just generally squabbling over our birdseed. They pooped all over everything we left outside, and they crashed into Beluga so many times I was afraid we'd have dents in her side. Enough was enough and the feeder was put away. Find your own food your greedy things!

After lunch we packed up the dogs and drove over to Lone Rock Beach. It was such a nice warm sunny day that the beach sounded like just the ticket for us all. We drove around the sandy shore until we found just the right, deserted spot and let the beasts out! Sasha headed straight for the water and waded in happily.
There is only one thing she likes better than eating and laying in the dirt, and that is wading around in fresh water. She likes the ocean, but we always rag on her about drinking the salt water, so when she gets a nice fresh lake where she can poke about and drink without being hassled, she's a happy old girl.
We gave Lewis a ball to carry down to the water, so he was happy too. He enjoys it when we throw the ball down the beach, or into the water, but he mostly loves to just toss, kick, fling and carry the ball all by himself. OK by me! He's easily amused, they both are.
Can you match the sandy faces with the sandy feet in the pictures below?
Its hard to really get the scale of things around this lake. This yellow boat was about 20 or 25 feet long and was passing us about 200 feet off the beach. Isn't that a beautiful rooster tail its throwing up?
Now, do you see that same rooster tail following that same yellow boat as its passes Lone Rock? I was amazed at how big it is, and this boat really allowed me to put it in perspective.
Sasha and Dave are just soaking up that old sun. |
this boy can really concentrate when someone is holding his ball |

Oh dear, she's off following her nose again.... |

We set everything back up and enjoyed a cocktail with our neighbors a few sites down. They brought us brownies! They are from Cody, Wyoming and pulled their boat behind their motorhome for a week of fun on the lake. Nice people. They are traveling with 3 French Brittany Spaniels, real cuties. By the way, she had that beautiful diamond ring on her finger this time!
I love when we make a fire. Watching the flames just mesmerizes me.
ReplyDeleteThose birds are lovely. I have never seen one in the wild. Great photos.
I learn so many new words from your blog: ju ju, rooster tail, etc.
ReplyDeleteMessy, messy dogs! But oh so happy!
Agree...the yellow headed blackbirds are greedy! I stopped filling my feeder at Roper Lake because I was afraid they were going to injure themselves, they were so aggressive.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had enough respite from the wind you could enjoy the beach for a while!
Love the picture of the fire! Reds, oranges and yellows make for a perfect photo.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about those birds because they are so pretty. But about the time they woke me, it would be all over for them!!
The lake and sand look so relaxing. Can't wait to get there! Definitely happy dogs. Lewis looks cute with the bad hair day. Nothing better than a child that entertains himself.
Too bad about that darn wind. We have had enough all ready!
