Yesterday we made the decision to leave our campsite and move to another campground just a few miles up the road. Confident in our plans we had a good dinner, chinese hacked pork and snow peas, watched DWTS and went to bed early. I slept like the proverbial log (as usual) but Dave didn't. In addition to the barking dogs and "interesting" neighbors, our power kept surging and the inverter was making peculiar noises. He got up in the middle of the night and unplugged Beluga from the shore power pedestal and came back to bed. Then he spent the rest of the night planning what to do if the inverter was fried from the bad power.
It was not our usual leisurely morning with second cup outside. We didn't want to plug back in and chance doing more damage, so we used our propane stove to heat water for coffee/tea and had rice cakes with peanut butter and raisins for breakfast. As we broke camp, started up and prepared to leave, we saw that the barricades had gone back across the driveway and the road crew was laying yet another layer of asphalt on the road in front of the campground. We were trapped. They said it would be at least 35 minutes before we could drive across the new, hot road. Dave turned Beluga off and we made and ate lunch. Then they told us it would be at least another 40 minutes. Still no way to leave. We realized that we weren't going to make our appointment at Best Friends today. Rats!
Luckily I was able to move our tour and orientation to tomorrow so we brought out our Kindles and just read until we could move out. The manager of the park was not very pleasant when he saw us leaving...Oh well.
We checked in to the Kanab Corral, set up and breathed a sigh of relief. The sites are a bit tight, but it is neat as a pin, with lovely people and is a much more civilized place all around.
Tomorrow is another day. Tour of Best Friends at 1:00 and Volunteer Orientation at 3:00.
Shhhhhh Dave didn't get much sleep last night |
This was the only decent park in Kanab. As a matter of fact, the work campers are friends of Howard and Linda from RV Dreams blog. They just stayed there for a few days to visit with them. What terrible luck you had for a 24 hour period. Hopefully, you will have a great time at the Sanctuary and Dave gets a good night's sleep:)
ReplyDeleteWe had dinner with Paul, Nina, and the Watson's tonight before we head out tomorrow. It was a great evening.
Glad to see your guy finally got some zzzzzzzz's.
ReplyDeleteNow how can the manager be upset with you? There was no way you could have left on time. Enjoy the tour.
