Tuesday - everything we have is gritty

Everything we have is gritty.  The wind drives sand into every little crevice. Places you don't expect.   The camera lens grinds when it goes in and out, the jeeps' steering wheel grates when you turn it, the gear shift scrapes when you move it from park to drive and even the "eye byuk" we occasionally wipe from the dogs eyes is made up of sand.  I think I've mentioned before, we're so done with this constant wind.  Its really the only thing we can complain about. The scenery, the sun, the people are all over the top good.    End of rant.

We left our wonderful site at Wahweap this morning, waved goodbye to our nice neighbors, Bob and Ann (you know, Bob and Ann from Cody, Wyoming, who have 3 French Brittany Spaniels, who brought us brownies and smoked salmon, Ann of the found diamond ring) drove into Page to give Beluga a nice big  drink and found a beautiful spot for lunch.

The drive to Kanab wasn't a long one and we were glad to see that most of last week's road construction was in the final stages and didn't hold us up.    We unhooked the jeep just before we entered Kanab proper so that Dave could maneuver Beluga over the huge drop off from the original road down to the road bed under construction directly in front of our next campground.   The good - the crew had just finished paving the new road bed and there was no drop off.   The bad - we had to pull into a bumpy dirt lot across the street until the blacktop layer "cooled" enough for us to drive over.  We parked and sat there for the better part of an hour before we were allowed across.

waiting

Finally we pulled into the campground and found our site.  We had planned on staying here while we volunteered at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, but we'll move to another campground tomorrow morning.
This could be a really nice campground, its in a nice setting in a convenient area to visit a number of national parks and the surrounding mountains and buttes are spectacular.   Perhaps I've become spoiled by the lovely campgrounds we've enjoyed lately, but I just don't want to open my curtains and see this every day.....

Right next to us are 3 constantly barking dogs, big dogs.  Every time one of us steps out of Beluga, we trigger a storm of noise.

Lest you think I'm just being a priss, let me tell you or show you a few things I'm really happy about here.
TV !!!   We've been without it for more than a week and I didn't think I really missed it.  We got along just fine, quite happily actually.   But I realize how nice it is to watch DWTS live and to watch the morning shows and actually see some news and weather, not to mention Jeopardy!

If I look over my neighbors, this is what I see.
I wish my blinds closed from the bottom instead of the top.

Dave found these beauties, his favorite spring flowers, growing wild at the edge of a nearby cemetery.  Beluga smells heavenly tonight!

Tomorrow we move in the morning, then have a tour and orientation at Best Friends.

  1. Glad you arrived in Kanab safely. We drove over there from Zion one day when we thought we might be staying in Kanab. We checked out that park you are in...not good!! We felt like many of the road crew were staying there. Glad you are moving.

Beautiful lunch spot! Have fun tomorrow at the Sanctuary!!

  3. We were lucky when we stayed there we were not next to the permanents and all was quiet. :-) I'll be interested in seeing where you end up because it seemed like the other parks in town were very, very tight. Wait till you see the two RV sites at Best Friends...those look wonderful!

    Have fun at Best Friends!

  4. Paul and I can never figure out why campground owners allow stuff like that? Doesn't say much for the management.
