When I lifted the bedroom blinds this morning I got a surprise!
Yesterday we hung a bird seed feeder in the tree outside the window. Sometimes it takes the local residents a little while to find the free food. There were no takers yesterday, but today there were lots of hungry birds. There were some white crowned sparrows, a California thrasher or two, some doves, house sparrows and the usual assortment of seed eaters.
But there was someone else today. A house finch brought a very unusual friend along for breakfast.
At first I thought it must be an escaped canary that joined up with a mixed flock of sparrows and finches. I looked on line and realized it was not.
I've decided that lowly Mr. house sparrow managed to score an exotic, mail order bride and they were on their honeymoon in Palm Springs. Any other ideas?
We had plans for today, several options were being discussed. In the end, we spent too much time talking and it got too late to go anywhere worthwhile, so...
We walked over to the 100 degree, jiggly mineral pool and jiggled the afternoon away warmly...
