First week in the desert

We've been here almost a week now and I think we're all finally relaxed and caught up.    We've been sort of keeping up with the election results,  but not perseverating.   We've voted and the results will be what the results will be.

Lewis enjoys head scratches while Dave checks the news

Dave has finished washing and waxing Beluga and the Jeep.  He's rearranged the basement compartments and done a little work around on a water check valve (I didn't explain that right at all!).

We've restocked our pantry and hung up a feeder for the hummingbirds that have been impatiently tapping their little toes.

We've enjoyed second cup and happy hour outside every single day.   ahhhhhh     This area has broken it's high temperature records daily since we arrived so neither of us has had the inclination to get out and do anything.   We're more interested in catching up on rest and relaxation.    The last couple months at the lake were very busy and the drive across the country was stressful.     Next week is predicted to be cooler but sunny so we'll get out and about then.

Today I made some fruited coleslaw for dinner.   I had part of an apple left so I impaled it on a broken Palo Verde branch outside the door.    It was a huge hit with the local birds.    We had many noisy "discussions" about who's territory this actually is.    Who got to eat the apple first, how long to stay at it, how many times they could return, etc., etc.

It seems every night's sunset is more beautiful than the last......

  1. Your delightful bird pics remind me that it's been too long since I've had my feeders out, and I can't wait until we're put down a bit longer to make it worthwhile. I hope the promise of cooler weather pans out for you!

  4. Nice to have the birds for company on those lazy days. November has finally hit SoCal, Whoot Whoot! The heat wave has been broken. Enjoy your stay.

  5. This is lovely. You're in a beautiful place to relax and unwind after such a busy summer and challenging cross-country journey. Love that the little hummers were tapping their toes waiting for the feeders to appear, LOL!

  6. Nothing wrong with just stopping and taking a breather! I am so jealous of your bird watching - especially the hummers. I am hesitating putting the feeders up mostly because I still have a few blue jays hanging around raiding them. They need to move along. Looks like you have a marvelous spot!

  7. I added apples to the oranges and suet I have on the picnic table...fingers crossed. All we have seen so far is a pair of roadrunners, one lonely verdin and lots (and lots) of hummers. Fingers crossed for some woodpeckers!

Beautiful spot you have to unwind and enjoy the sunsets! Arizona sunsets are the best!

  8. You have such a lovely site to relax and take in the beauty of the desert. Dave certainly didn't take any time to relax with all he's accomplished. But I can only imagine just how dirty the MH and Jeep were with the weather you went through. John would have had to wash immediately, too. While I'm not a huge birder, your photos are awesome. Their own treat lady!!

  9. Sometimes you just need some downtime, and however much attention you may be paying to politics, this whole period of time has been exhausting. Sounds like you are in the perfect place to just chill for a bit and enjoy the scenery. Speaking of which, those sunset photos are incredible!
