Departure!

It's Spring!   Spring makes my thoughts turn to summer and summer makes me want to get on the road again.

This year we'll be away from home for six months, so the planning and packing were intense.

nothing smells better than sheets dried in the warm sunshine

In between that packing and planning we managed to do a little socializing with friends who were also getting ready to leave home.     Janna and Mike came for dinner before heading North to their beautiful mountain home.

my father's army method for making folks smile naturally always works.....

Dave played mechanic, helping Steve with another project and we enjoyed a delicious dinner on the Lowes patio before they flew away to Asia for another of their epic adventures.

Dave had one last fireplace cuddle with you know who.....

I picked the rest of the beautiful volunteer Iris to help brighten Beluga, armed our outdoor cameras, unplugged the refrigerator, turned off the water., etc. etc. etc.

And, we were off!

over the Colorado River

We drove away yesterday morning, and this morning I'm sitting in the sun at Catalina Spa and RV Resort, Desert Hot Springs, California.    This wasn't originally in the plan, but....why not?     A little sunshine, a few really good dinners and then we'll start with the plan.

Last night we had a great meal at Zin, in downtown Palm Springs.   Taos also enjoyed himself as he usually does.

nom nom nom

We had a quiet Easter, but little Annie had a riot with her cousins.    She also helped herself to her aunt's new red cowboy boots!

Stay tuned......

  1. Hi Sue…hoping for safe travels and big adventures for you and Dave. I have no idea what your father’s army method was, but I do love those big smiles! And that slice of pie looks yummy! There is nothing quite so nice as sleeping on crisp sun dried sheets. I always hung out sheets in GA until I went thru allergy testing and had shots for a few years so I could breath and not have sinus infections. I remember the allergy Dr telling me not to hang out sheets. I do however air dry them on a rack inside…even in the motor home…as sheets just don’t feel as good when dried in a dryer. Hugs to you, Dave and Taos.

  2. He was a photographer in the army. He'd look at his subjects with a sweet smile on his face, focus his camera and say ""everybody look at me and say....sh..t! Works every time!
I hang sheets in the motorhome also, it's not a good look, but I love the feeling of those sheets.

  4. You're right on it! I haven't been posting much lately, so I'm not surprised that you don't look for a blog anymore..... Annie loves to wear large shoes, anyone's large shoes!

  6. Have you made reservations for the entire six month? I was wondering how full RV parks are these days. Annie is, as always, adorable, love the ears and the boots.

    1. Hi Allison! Yes, I've made rv park reservations for the entire trip. I've not had any trouble getting the spots I want when I want them except for a crabby woman in Astoria, Oregon. She's always been that way with guests, I know it, and I'll play her game to get the spot I want! "Call in July for a 2-week resv. in September" she says. Alrighty then. It's easier for me to take care of things ahead of time, that way I can sit back and enjoy the trip! Hope we can get together this summer....

  7. I love that you hang sheets in the sun--I do it in Montana but not always in AZ. Love Annie in the red boots--styling little girl! Enjoy your summer even though parts of it will be hard. And safe travels! We tried to leave AZ in too much of a hurry this time--but I think the only thing I forgot was Katie the Caterpillar!

  8. I'm glad you replaced Katie before Kaycee discovered your mistake and made you pay....
Hanging sheets outside in the sun in Arizona is the BEST! They dry in a flash and smell sooo good. Enjoy your summer and we'll see you in the fall.

  9. Love the Beluga heading out pic - it screams adventures ahead :-)) Glad you got some friend time before all are off for summer excitement. Great smiles. DHS is always a good stop, planned or not. Taos is such a big boy now! Miss Annie is rocking those red boots and her bunny ears, too dang cute.
LOL at the reservation person in Astoria - and don't forget no credit cards! Still the best spot for that area I think :-)

    1. Hi Jodee....hope you're having a good time in one of our favorite places, SF! I'd forgotten about the credit card issue in L and C, but I agree that it's probably the best spot in the area.

    1. We always look forward to our summer travels. This year, some new things, some familiar things. Adventures? - Taos embarks on his new life adventure, we'll be babysitting our 2 year old granddaughter for two weeks, we'll be taking a train in the Canadian Rockies, spending time at the ocean, exploring along one of our most favorite routes, etc.
