Dudley's goodies and Julian Pie!
One day we drove south to visit a favorite spot, Borrego Springs. Included in that drive, of course, was a quick stop in San Ysabel for some goodies at Dudley's and a few (yes, a few....) Julian Pies for the road. (We managed to save one Strawberry/Rhubarb pie to share with MonaLiza and Steve when they came for dinner a few weeks ago - such willpower....)
The wildflowers were just beginning to show their pretty faces to the stark desert. I was surprised to see them that early in the year, I wish we'd planned more time to explore!
No visit to Borrego is complete without an off road drive to Font's Point. It's an impressive spot with forever views and deafening silence. We felt Jeff Pierce's spirit all around.
We got back home on the Saturday after New Years Day. Mother nature decided to give us a bit more rain and cold weather just for fun.

Taos enjoyed eating the ice we pulled from the birdbath
Taos was very happy to get back into the house and claim the favored spot in front of "his" fireplace.
Unsettled weather always brings beautiful skies here in the desert, so there's always that silver lining.
All that rain encouraged a verdant desert - something we rarely see.
We were surprised when the mailman delivered a few post-Christmas goodies for us. Thanks Judi and Cindy!

Cindy P didn't forget our boy
Dave has been busy with all the things Dave is always busy with. Ordering new tires for Beluga, chasing down and fixing the infuriating "codes" the Jeep has been throwing, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, taking Beluga's refrigerator out and locating an exact replacement, rebuilding Beluga's furnaces "redecorating" his bathroom, etc. etc.

I kept telling him it doesn't go with the decor....
Taos has been busy also, well, as busy as Taos gets.....

And....here's Annie testing her daddy's climbing wall project. Fun, she proclaims!

Those little goodies from that bakery look fabulous! Now, why does Taos have that towel over his back? And, yes, those were some awesome skies! Cindy
ReplyDeleteDudley's goodies are really good! It's the towel we put down for Taos to have his Happy Hour treat on. He's started carrying it to wherever we decide to sit - you know, to help out!
DeleteHi Sue…that first photo of Whitewater Preserve is especially pretty! The light was just right for that one! Dave looks quite happy and satisfied with his new decor. He has sure been busy. I think I remember the last time the fridge came out of Beluga it went thru the window…that’s not a fun job! I love the expression on Taos’ face with his duck from Cindy. He is such a handsome boy! And Miss Annie is awesome…
ReplyDeleteThanks Gay, the light that afternoon was really lovely. You're right, Paul Novell and Dave put the refrigerator in Beluga through the window! No Paul this time though....
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you guys yesterday. Dave has been busy, busy--Keeps him out of trouble! We are enjoying that green desert every day when we walk. All those goodies look divine! And Taos with his towel--such a sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteMorning Janna. You know about busy husbands don't you! I didn't make any Christmas cookies this year so the delights from Dudley's were especially welcome. We thought Taos should work a little for his treats, thus asking him to carry the towel! Such a good boy.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of the Julian Pie purchase. Miss the cherry and S/R pies. The Dudley goodies look yummy. Good you got to see some of the blooms in AB. There has been several people sharing photos of all the blooms. The desert lilies are really showing themselves. Love the photos of Taos resting his head on the ball. So cute. Taos does love his fireplace:) The photos are of Dave and his toilet are too funny!! How cool is Annie's climbing wall!! Great job, dad!
ReplyDeleteThose are our two favorite pies from Julian also. Dudley makes and sells its own pies but we've never tried one....why, with Julian right next door! Since I didn't make any Christmas cookies this year it was great that Dudley did! Taos just checks out when he's tired, no matter where he is or what he's doing. The ball was a good headrest when he was tired of returning it to us!
DeleteAhh, the views from Font's Point and Julian pies - divine!! It must be love if Dave gives up his fireplace spot to Taos :-)) You're so fortunate to have all the services provided by Mr David. Perhaps flowers would make the new decor piece fit better? Lovely to see all that green under dramatic skies. And of course Taos is too cute resting on his ball and carrying his towel. Lucky Annie to have her own climbing wall - fun indeed!
ReplyDeleteFont's Point and Julian pies are like old friends, so good to visit over and over. There's no question that Dave and Taos are in love, they always share the fireplace's warmth. Not much room for me though..... No flowers - Mona Liza has cornered that market! Taos just poops out and takes a break wherever he happens to be, and the jolly ball is just the right height for his heavy head. Jesse built the climbing wall for Annie's day care but let her have the first climb when he installed it.
DeleteI'm settled in with a G & T (currently on our winter trip to Florida) and wishing you guys were here or we were there! :-)) I'm going to work my way back through all of your posts I've missed. I'm so happy to see you three together and as always, enjoying the small pleasures of every day. Your desert is so beautifully lush right now!! Happy New Year, dear friends.
ReplyDeleteA gin and tonic in Florida with friends sounds pretty d mn good! I wish you could work your way back west for a visit...... Small pleasures are the best, I know you agree. Happy New Year to you, our dear friends.
DeleteI screwed up! We were in Wickenberg yesterday and it wasn't until we were having supper with Mike and Janna that I realized you guys lived here as well. For some reason I had it in my head you were further south. Totally bummed....
ReplyDeleteDarn! It would have been great to meet you guys! If you're coming back through, let me know and we can arrange anything. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
