Dave and Lewis coming back from their before breakfast walk |
We had a peaceful nights sleep with all our windows open to catch the cool breezes. Its so nice to awake to the smell of fresh morning air.
As we sat out front with our second cup we discussed pushing our plans back a day and staying here until Monday. So much to see and do but its terribly tempting to just veg out and hang around the lake. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Today we turned the air conditioning on and left the dogs to themselves. Dave wanted to see the Hoover Dam and it was just too hot to take them along. It turns out the dam is just over the mountain directly to our right.

the dam is right over the black mountain ahead of us |

this high voltage transmission tower was canted at a peculiar angle. It almost looked like it was tipping over....hmmm |

Bypass bridge. until this bridge was built in 2010, route 93 traffic ran over the dam's crest |
We read that over a million tourists visit the dam and its visitor center each year. I think they all showed up today, it was nearly impossible to get a photo without a stranger's head in it. We didn't go to the museum or the visitor's center. We didn't walk over the route 93 bypass bridge over the lower side of the river, we just wanted to get away from all the cameras and ipads and iphones and the people operating them. Our tolerance for crowds seems to be at an all time low. When did that happen?
On our way back to the campground to take the dogs for a swim, we took a detour to check out a potentially faster, easier way to get out of town when we leave on Sunday. There has to be an easier way than to drive directly through the middle of downtown Las Vegas! Yep, there certainly is, that is a load off our minds. The unintended consequence of our little detour was that we "discovered" the sweet historic district of Boulder City. What a lovely place it is. We parked the jeep and walked around looking for a hardware store (needed batteries for the jeep's key fob). Look what we saw....

What was going on? Were we in a time warp? Why all these fabulous old cars and trucks parked or driving the quiet streets of Boulder City? We finally asked someone and found out that tomorrow and Sunday there will be a Street Rod car show and a street fair here. Oh boy, Dave says that has our name all over it.
Guess what we're doing tomorrow.....
Aah....the benefits of retirement! Staying one more day? Sure....why not????
