Likely Place Golf and RV really filled up for Saturday's Tournament. Sometime during the night the site next to us took on two pick up trucks, one fifth wheel and a tent. Dave heard them come in around midnight, but I slept blissfully. Another perk of beginning to lose youthful hearing....
If we hadn't already planned to leave, the mountain men next to us cemented the decision. I was anxious to get on the road again, so we picked up stakes and headed north again on 395. We connected with 299 west, then 139 north, past the Lava Beds National Park (a stop for another time) and on into Oregon on 39. Just past Klamath Falls, we turned west on 140 and followed it to Dead Indian Memorial Road.
As we drove through fertile fields recently plowed and fitted for grain and potatoes, a strong rain and wind storm rode over us. With no shoulders on the road, and nothing to stop the rain driven wind, I was pretty nervous. Dave was stoic, as usual, and hung on to the wheel, hoping the storm would pass quickly.
Eventually, the squall line moved past us and we climbed into the mountains again. Flat, farm fields gave way to tall pine trees, their feet in yellow flowers. We both took a deep breath and enjoyed the scenery again.

At last, a sign for Dead Indian Memorial Road....we were close to our destination now.
We found the Lake of the Woods Resort, checked in, debated on whether the assigned site would work for us, checked out a few other sites, more debate and finally settled on the original site and moved Beluga into her home for the next few days. This resort reminds us of being in the Adirondack or the Thousand Islands. Tall pine trees giving us peek a boo glimpses of the sparkling lake. Rustic camping cabins and rv sites nestled among the trees. Full hookups, no TV. Small log lodge and restaurant on the shores of the lake.
He says, "Can I buy you dinner?" What can a girl say? We enjoyed dinner lakeside, watching clouds play across the water. Life is good.

ReplyDeleteBoy, does your spot look like the northeast! Haven't seen huge pines around lake in a long time. Beautiful dinner view. Very pretty flowers. Enjoy your time there. Hope the dogs get to swim!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fabulous place to stop for a few days. We'll be making our way to the forest in about a week and a half, it'll be a nice change.
