Monday on the road, the windy road.

early morning through the windshield
Cloudy with a chance of rain for our last morning.   The pesky wind was still with us, so second cup had to be enjoyed inside once again.

bye bye Lake Mead

Not much to talk about today.   We packed up and drove away around 11:00, heading for an overnight stop in Beatty, Nv.    We got through Las Vegas with very little traffic and peeled off onto route 95 north.  For a long while it was a divided highway, then turning into a one lane highway, straight as an arrow.  We were getting hungry for lunch, but didn't pass any place wide enough to pull over safely so, for the first time on this trip, I gingerly made sandwiches while Beluga hurtled down the bumpy road.   Again, the wind was blowing hard and Dave had his hands full so I cut his sandwich into tiny pieces, one mouthful at a time.  Not the best way to eat, but I was getting very hungry and it didn't look like a rest stop was on our horizon.

We drove along a broad valley, ringed on all sides by high, multi-colored mountains.   Passed Creech Air Force base  ( looked like no one was home).   Huge runways but we only saw one lonely drone waiting for flight.

We arrived at the Death Valley Inn and RV Resort (the term "resort" must be used facetiously) around 3:00 and we were happy to have landed.   It was spitting rain and the sky on 3 sides looked ominous.  Luckily we didn't have to unhook the jeep so we just stayed inside til the shower passed by.  This is a very ordinary but clean campground.  We're in a pull thru site at the rear of the park, with a few trees to either side of us.  The place is about 1/2 full so we're happy not to have a neighbor.

Dave found some lovely rose bushes and brought me a few blooms.
You know how Dave feels about flowers!

The sky looks black again, so I'll close for now.  Time to get dogs out before another round of rain arrives.  Then we're in for the night.   Tomorrow we'll head north and into California again.  Bishop is our destination for the next 3 or 4 days.

  2. We have seen the words RV Resort used to describe just about any type of living experience. We now just ignore that part of any name.
