small pleasures

a short post on a small pleasure....

In between bouts of rain and rain and rain, a sucker hole appeared.

We took advantage of whatever lull we would have, piled in the Jeep and went looking for the sweet Desert Lily.  It was reported to be blooming, early, out in the desert near Arroyo Salado.

The desert is just beginning to bloom, this rain has whispered "spring" to the waiting flowers.

We saw the tell-tail foliage of the Desert Lily in one area but no plants near flowering.

We walked along the wet sandy hills, following the wavy foliage clusters until we found a few that were beginning to show their beautiful trumpet like flowers.

almost open

at last, an enthusiastically blooming Desert Lily

Small pleasures.

  2. WOW! What a great find! The Desert Lily is beautiful! I love the desert...especially when it blooms! The rain is so needed so we can’t complain....but we are in our third rainy day with one more to go!

Hope you and Dave are feeling much better!

  3. Thank you for bringing some sunshine and gorgeous weather into our lives. We are going to get pounded this weekend. Suppose to have between 11 to 13 inches of snow by Saturday. Yuck. I long for the desert

  4. Nice to see some flowers in bloom! Fran and I have signed up for the ABF wildflower next week. We're looking forward to seeing some too! The lily is always a special find, and the elusive 5-spot.

  6. It's always amazing to me what beauty can be produced by a landscape that can seem so barren. Hope you're all much improved from the crud.
