Spring has sprung in the desert and everything is green and growing. Birds are singing different songs, spring songs, and we even had a couple of Orioles stop by last week.

Vultures swing by regularly to keep the desert behind the house clean and tidy.

We haven't seen nor heard a hawk all winter but they're back! The bird feeder gets very quiet and still when this guy arrives.
We've been enjoying our last weeks here. In my last post I told you about a Friday evening meal we hosted here for visiting Joodie and Mark, Steve and MonaLiza. Smoked Prime Rib, outside on the patio? Laughing, bug identifying? I didn't show you a picture though, I took none. Since then MonaLiza shared one she took so I'll share it with you.....
Mona Liza had just shared some Filipino gestures with us and we were trying them out....looks strange, but we found the gestures useful......
The next Monday, MonaLiza and Steve hosted a brunch for us, (brunch instead of lunch because we had an afternoon Dr.'s appointment to get to, thanks for being so accommodating MonaLiza), Joodie and Mark, and Ingrid and Al (travelers who've recently come off the road and bought at house in Sun City). We had a veritable feast as Steve smoked two spatchcock chickens and MonaLiza made her famous Pancit. The rest of the meal was pot luck and no one left hungry!

Oh Dave, let go of my pony tail! |
Another night the four of us tried one more meal at the very nice Wickenburg Ranch's Jake's Spoon. We decided that this would be our last try at this particular restaurant because, while it's a lovely space with lots of beautiful and spacious outdoor seating, the food has been very unremarkable. The last time we had lunch there MonaLiza ordered a chicken salad croisant and almost sent it back, thinking it was tuna.....it was that bad. This time, however, the food was spot on and we all enjoyed ourselves with plans to add it to our "go to" places next fall. No pictures, except of the pretty sunset as we walked back to the parking lot.
Last Sunday afternoon our neighbor across the road (the one with the horses) invited us to join a neighborhood happy hour in their backyard. Everyone brought something to eat and drink and the talk was of travel and summer plans. We're all (except them) leaving this month. One couple to British Columbia, one couple to Vermont, another to Montana, one to North Dakota.
Beluga is sstarting to get excited and pokes her head out of her tight quarters whenever she gets a chance....She's ready to go! Just a few more days now.....
Love the Desert Cardinal…I haven’t seen one!
ReplyDeletewe have a pair that visits regularly. So beautiful to see them with their cousins, the northern cardinals!
DeletePork pancit and lumpia from a local food truck here are very good. Yupper a food truck.
ReplyDeleteGood times are better with great friends. looking forward to your travels. We're home bound 'till July! arg ...
MonaLiza's Pancil and lumpia rival any others, I'll lay money on it! You can ride along with us til you take to the road in July....we have room!
ReplyDeleteer....I meant to type Pancit, not Pancil.....
DeleteSounds like lots of good times and food with friends. I do love that little Desert Cardinal. So colorful. Beluga is busting out with excitement. Hope she has a cooler summer journey this year. You know I only read blogs for dog photos!!! You seem to have missed the most important fur boy!
ReplyDeleteWe hope our summer travels will be a little cooler and a lot less smokey too! Sorry, I forgot to include any Lew pictures for you. Next time for sure.
DeleteYou guys seem to be doing the same thing we've been doing--having great times with friends and eating! Loved your photos of the "cousin" and the "only a mother could love" buzzard!
ReplyDeleteI think we all have to close out our time in the desert with a few little celebrations, right? Safe travels to you and Mike also!
DeleteLooking forward to photos of the travels. Spring in AZ truly is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt is very pretty with all the blooming and the greening! Maybe we'll stay a little longer next year....
DeleteYou stayed long enough to see some Spring perks!! Love the little Sparrow with their fluff. Ours kept losing their nests in the wind - some were huge undertakings all gone in a couple days :-( So exciting you're nearly on your way. It's so great to roll down the road!
ReplyDeleteWe're looking forward to getting on the road too!
DeleteOh, how I will miss the SW birdies. Do you worry about the roof nests?
ReplyDeleteOMG that picture of me with my little T-Rex arms just won't die! :D That evening was one for the books, and the brunch was just another great get-together. I really do hope you can make it out to Sequim someday so we can repay the favor with more deliciousness and laughter.
Beluga looks very excited, and I know you are, too. Safe travels and fair weather, my friends!
I love the T-Rex picture! It shows real personality.....
DeleteWorry about roof nests? I don't like to have the eggs and babies raining down on my head but I don't know about worry. Do you know something that I don't?
Sequim is definitely on our list so we very much look forward to a north country visit!
Good luck and safe travels on your new adventure. See you next time!
