Tuesday - Beluga at a Likely Place

there is no reason to insert this picture here.    I just really like it

The weather was favorable this morning so we set off on 395 heading into the sparsely populated northeastern section of California.

We stopped for lunch near Honey Lake, CA., a mostly dry lake surrounded by alkalai flats.

Dave stops their noon time walk to remove a sticker from poor Lewis
Our destination was Likely, CA. and the Likely Place Golf and RV Resort.   We drove for a few hours only passing one or two tiny settlements such as Ravindale, population 20 and Termo, population 24.  I'm sure Dave was wondering where I was taking him, it certainly didn't look like the area you would typically find a golf course (or enough people to play golf if there was such a course!).  Truth be told, I was beginning to wonder.     As per instructions, we turned off 395 onto CA 64 and continued through lush green meadows filled with Angus and Hereford cattle.   The sight of Beluga sent the babies racing for the safety of their huge mamas.

are those cows on the course?

We made one more turn at a large stone gate with a sign telling us this was the place.....We drove for another mile or so on a nicely paved one lane road, over cattle guards and past signs warning of "range cattle".....hmmmm.

range cattle?  are their cows on the driving range?

(pay no attention to the bugs on the windshield - actually, they're not all bugs.  We're nursing a crack on this windshield also)
they were watching us.   wondering where we were going?
Finally we rounded a corner and there it was!    We checked in, settled into our spot and flopped down outside for our afternoon G&T.  We wonder who decided this was a good place to put an 18 hole golf course!   We wonder who plays golf here.  Likely's population is 99 according to the sign in "town".
Its a great campground, wide gravel spots, evergreen trees and lovely green grass between sites, and good services (well, except tv).    There are quite a few rigs here, but not full by any means.

Sasha waits for us to return to our chairs and finish our cocktails so she can have an ice cube

a pond on the trail

After our Trader Joe's Chicken Marsala dinner (Mmmm), we took the dogs for a walk on the trail we'd noticed on our way in.  Lewis was beside himself (what else is new), sniffing the prairie dog tunnels, the deer tracks, the cow plops and Sasha was as perky as I've seen her.

Tomorrow we'll play the course and let you know if its as nice as the rest of this place.   Stay tuned.

pretty nice sunset too!
