Here are a couple pictures of the "amber waves of grain" samples I pulled up along the drive to the other day's adventure. I won't show you any shots of my dirty, sandaled feet as a result of collecting these, however.....
One is most certainly wheat and one is definitely canola, but what variety are they? One tall and drooping, one straight as an arrow and one short and fat.....any thoughts?
And....here is a totally gratuitous photo of Lewis for one of his fans....I know she only reads this blog to see him.....
Regardless of the grain their foxtail shape does not look very Lewis friendly :)
ReplyDeleteFun things to learn about on your travels
Indeed, we won't let Lew near them while we dissect..... It is fun to learn new things about our surroundings, never to old to learn.
DeleteThe grain pictures are really nice! Good choice of background. I was really hoping Spokane would not get a lot of smoke, some years are better than others.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what other grains they are? I'm truly hoping some years are better than others too since we'll be spending plenty of time up here!
DeleteThose are great, frameable pics! Alas I have no idea what they are beyond the wheat. Sweet Lew :-)
ReplyDeletePerhaps we'll figure it out!
DeletePretty grain photos! But I am no help in identifying them. So happy to see Lew. I was just thinking about him and wondering how he is doing on his summer vacation. :-)
ReplyDeleteLew is enjoying his normal routines in Beluga. Eat well, play ball (inside to avoid the heat - he hates heat and smoke, makes him sneeze), get pets, get treats, go "out", snooze on the bed, repeat daily.
DeleteI’m no help either…and I agree with Jodee that they are frame worthy! Always love it when you share Lewis photos…such a sweet boy!
ReplyDeletehe's such a good boy.....
DeleteCould the drooping one be rye? And scritches to Lew!
ReplyDeletewe know it's not rice or oats so.....perhaps rye. We need a crop farmer's expertise!
DeleteGrasses are so pretty! And Lew is so cute!
ReplyDeletebeauty everywhere!
DeleteI am clueless about the grains. It would be nice if farmers would put signs on their fences that tell what it is. They do that a lot in the Willamette Valley and it's really nice to know. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of green stuff.
ReplyDeleteI often say that to Dave...."I wish they'd put signs on their rows"! How thoughtless of them farmers!
ReplyDeleteLove, love your grain photos! So creative. Now to only know what is what. Interesting how very different they are.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, my boy is so cute. What a sweet photo:) Thanks! I haven't seen a photo in quite awhile. Won't be long til the pats will be real.
Can't wait!
