We left French Creek State Park this morning heading for Harpers Ferry/Charlestown, West Virginia to visit with Mary and Dave. We're good friends that don't get to see each other very often, so we were really looking forward to tonight.
We've decided to stay overnight at a Walmart in Charlestown instead of a campground. Its easy, quick, safe and free - just what we need for one evening. The drive down was relatively uneventful with one exception. We missed our turn shortly after leaving the state park and had to drive quite a few miles out of our way on very small (albeit beautiful) local roads. We had to share those roads with Mennonite buggies and it made for an interesting time for all of us. We came upon a funeral just letting out in Blue Ball and ended up following many carriages and buggies. I love the view from behind them, you can just see the horses feet and their ears above and below the wagons as they trot smartly along. Typically we see plain bay standarbreds being used, but today, perhaps because of the occasion, many people had hitched up some beautiful, chestnut saddlebreds and were moving along in high style.
