We started the day lazily and after lunch decided to explore the mountains around us. We took NC 64 from Flat Rock to Highlands, passing through lovely little towns such as Cashiers, and especially Brevard. We stopped at the Blue Ridge Bakery and bought two tiny bumbleberry pies for dessert tonight.
The drive was beautiful, up and down, around and around narrow roads lines with deep woods underplanted with rhoddies and dogwood. Spectacular timberframe homes clinging to practically non-existent shelves of rock, but oh, the views they must have! We crossed the eastern continental divide.
Near Highlands, we came to bridal veil falls, tumbling right over the road! It was only one of many waterfalls on the drive, but certainly the most unusual, don't you think?
