Yesterday was one of the nicest Easters I've had in many years.  The weather was clear and sunny, and we decided to make the hour's drive to Kennett Square Pennsylvania to visit Longwood Gardens.  This part of the country has rolling, impossibly green hills and meadows bordered by spilt rail fences.  The grand old houses were built in the 1700's and are made of local stone.  Sheep and horses graze in the fields and the dogwood, weeping cherry and redbed are in their full glory.

We arrived at the Gardens around noon and enjoyed a delicious lunch.  We were seated by the window and watched the Easter bunny arrive and quietly sit on a bench in the sun.  Pretty soon, children noticed him (her?) and shyly approached to touch and talk.  He produced a basket with chocolate eggs and handed a few to each child, a very calm and sweet picture.  We really loved seeing the fancy Easter outfits they all wore.  One little girl had on her first pair of "heels" and wobbled around proudly.  (Mom had a pair of sneakers in her purse - in case - but the little lady would not hear of changing)

Longwood Gardens is a huge place.  After 3 hours we had only managed to do the Conservatory, so we decided we'd have to put the rest on our list to return and spend a few days.    We probably only saw 1/4 of the property and we felt like we were suffering from sensory overload!  So many colors and shapes and smells.
