We got up a little earlier this morning so we could go to the Organic Farmer's Market in Palm Springs. Its only open until 12:00 so we needed to put a nickel in it and get there before everything was gone. We're spoiled by the Eugene Farmer's Market, nothing will ever hold a candle to it as far as number of vendors, quality and variety of produce, and breakfast/lunch offerings. But this is California and the market was small, but offered very high quality produce. We bought English cucumbers, tiny, crunchy and hot radishes, avocados, pear tomatoes, finger sized carrots, and green onions. We didn't have our second cup of coffee/tea at home in anticipation of a little goodie at the market, but were disappointed. No vendors for us, I guess they are serious organic vegetable folks. Nuts.
We set off for downtown Palm Springs, there must be a .... Starbucks or some other coffee shop there. Bingo! Lots of places to sit and people watch with a cup of coffee and a scone (or pumpkin muffin, in my case). We sat in the sun for quite a while enjoying our snacks and the interesting people passing by. Saturday is a busy time in Palm Springs. I understand there is a "leather fest" in town this weekend.....

Marilyn wasn't walking by us, but she was standing across from our coffee shop, enjoying the windy day.
We needed to walk a bit and try to digest our little "morning snack", so we took the opportunity to stroll up and down the street, window shopping and just enjoying the views.

Next week there will be a classic car auction at one of the downtown resorts, and we happened upon the staging area. Lucky Dave! We saw only a fraction of the cars to be auctioned Friday, they were beautiful and we'll be back for the auction - sans wallets! Fred, you'd love to see all these machines in one place.

We rounded the last corner and were almost to the car when a young man, carrying a tray of pizza pieces, approached us and offered a taste. Hmmmm, thats all it took for us to follow him back to Bill's Pizza and a bit of an early lunch. We'll just have one little slice, then we can resume our day without having to look for a lunch place later on, right? Best laid plans. We sat outside and chatted with our cute waiter. He was trying to sell us on one of the newly invented pizza's they had on special. We agreed it sounded yummy, but ordered something else instead. He was so enthusiastic about his special slice that he brought us one, on the house. Now our one little slice turned into 3! What could we do but order a glass of wine and enjoy.
We'll never be able to eat the Mexican Stew that I put in the crockpot before leaving Beluga this morning. Ah well, things like that taste better the next day, don't they?

Yup, dump the jeep and buy Dave HIS car of choice!! I'd love to see Beluga pulling some expensive restored vintage car. He deserves it ...and, boy, wouldn't you just love to see those white knuckles on the windy days pulling Beluga and it's little new baby behind!
ReplyDeleteGreat story about the day at the market...and pizza...then wine. Sounds delightful! And I loved that picture of Sue! Thanks, Sue!
