Thursday - Palm Springs Street Fair

two pair of finches

We've been discovered!  The seed feeder we hung yesterday was just buzzing with finches, white crowned sparrows, song sparrows, doves and a new-to-us bird, the Verdin.   We're not sure if it was coming for the seeds, the insects kicked up by the white crowned sparrows as they searched the ground for dropped seeds, or the hummingbird feeder.    The nectar feeder brought 4 or 5 different hummingbirds, including a big one we've nicknamed "baby huey".  He is much bigger than the others and not very bright....He hasn't exactly found out how to get at the liquid, he bumbles about on the bottom of the feeder (the top has holes for feeding), races away, comes back a few minutes later and tries something else.  At least he's persistent, maybe tomorrow will be the day he figures it out.

We spent more time than usual over coffee, watching and laughing at the birds antics.  Once again, small pleasues.  Sasha alternately dozed at our feet and stared at us trying move a cookie from our pocket by the power of her "mind".....

you will feed me a cookie, you will feed me a cookie, you will feed me a cookie

After getting his morning share of our digestives, Lewis spent the rest of the time watching the world go by the front of Beluga.  He gave up trying to scare the birds away.

After lunch we took a drive around the area to see what is out here.  We took the road that runs along the side of our campground to its end in the desert.  It turns into dirt at a sand and sagebrush ridge, which we just found out is the San Andreas fault line, hmmmm.  Lots of sand tracks lead up on to it, so it looks like we'll have to take the jeep and see where they go some time in the next few days.

San Andreas fault line

By 4:30 we were back home, fed the dogs, changed our clothes and  headed into Palm Springs for the weekly Street Fair.   The town was really busy tonight.  One of the main streets is closed off for the fair and there were extra people in for the Classic Car Auction weekend, so parking was a a bit difficult.    We found a spot just a block or so from our favorite Pizza restaurant (Bill's), so we went in for a couple glasses of wine and a couple slices.  A good start to the evening.   It was a lovely night, cloudless and warm and we enjoyed strolling down the middle of Palm Canyon Drive looking at the booths and displays.      I don't have the hang of taking night pictures, makes me mad.   The Delorean used in "Back to the Future" was sitting at the curb, probably advertising the car auction, a cute, smooth potbellied pig was begging for people to feed her lettuce leaves, two huge belgian mares were eating carrots from children's hands (for $1 charity donation), jewelry, paintings, fire pits, wood carvings and ceramics being offered for sale, all kinds of food vendors (their aromas permeating the soft night air) all against a backdrop of stars and christmas lights -  and I can't show you any of it

 It was a nice date!

  1. Well, with those kind of descriptives, we can all imagine the fun you had last night (even without the pix!) ....sounds like a fun and exciting place.

But, now on to another part of your post: I do not like those gray hairs on Ms. Sasha's face!

Lewis looks nice and tidy from the back! Good Job!

Oh, and on being so close to THE faultline...now, don't go and start any problems out there! If Dave gets to joyriding with that Jeep of yours, well, who knows what he might do!

And savor that warmth ...because we'll be in NY savoring our warmth (50's and 60's all the rest of this week!) Hmmnnn Good!
