Last night we stayed at a very nice Elks Lodge in Blue Spring, Missouri, just east of Kansas City. They have 8 full hookup sites available for $15!
Most places don't allow you to wash your rig in the campground. Our neighbor found a creative way around this rule. He put on his swim trunks and cleaned his vehicles with the help of a brush and Mother Nature!
We enjoyed a pleasant evening there and this morning began our 6th day of driving. It was very windy all day and we drove in and out of rain. A tiring day to say the least.
The sun came out briefly as we were driving through the pretty, rolling prairies of Flint Hills. Beautiful.
We continued through areas of cattle and many large fields of rust colored Sorghum.
The further west we went, the darker the skies became and when we stopped for fuel it was clear that something was coming our way.
We've stopped for the night in Russell, Kansas and are very glad we're here. Beluga is rocking and rolling with strong winds. The sky is black and roiling, near constant lightning all around. We're safe, we have the tv and our weather radio on. There is a storm shelter here so if we need it, it's there. We're in Kansas, for sure. Surrender Dorothy!
always exciting to drive through the midwest
ReplyDeleteIt barely rained in Ohio all summer. We hit the road and rain! Murphy’s law at work once again. Be safe my friend.
ReplyDeleteScary looking storm! Hope it didn't develop into anything stronger over night. Lew is most certainly not comfortable riding along. He is on alert! He'll be very glad to get settled for a awhile:) Now that is a creative individual, if you don't mind getting wet. Why not use Mother Nature's hose!
ReplyDeleteWith that storm and your location, it's a good time to settle in and watch the Wizard of Oz ... again. Safe Travels!
ReplyDeleteThe guy washing his rig in the rain is hilarious! I don't like the looks of those storms, though. :-( I know you'll be happy to get to Colorado. May there only be a gentle wind at your back.
ReplyDeleteToo bad those gorgeous dramatic skies too often mean long nights - really great pics!!
