Monday/Tuesday

I have nothing exciting to report.    Monday Dave and Jack played golf while I stayed home and took care of the last few reservation details for our summer in Oregon.     Later that evening we met Jack and Marilyn at the University of Utah's  Pioneer Theater Company for their production of The Count of Monte Cristo.      It was exceptionally good, the singing was first class, the story was dramatic and well told, music was exciting and the sets and costumes were spot on.    All together a different and very pleasant evening for us.

Today, Tuesday, Dave and I went to Park City to look around.   The weather was lovely - clear and sunny albeit a bit chilly - and the drive was beautiful.    We had lunch/breakfast on historic Main street and then walked up one side of the street and down the other looking in shops, making a few purchases,  and enjoying the views.

After lunch we  drove up to Empire Pass and the resorts under the  Deer Valley Ski Resort umbrella.

The entire area is covered by fancy condos, hotel resorts  and huge, spectacular ski homes.     We came upon one small plot of land with three tiny abandoned houses set in a sea of conspicuous wealth.     This is what Park City must have looked like once upon a time.    We wonder how much developers will pay for this tiny square of land.....

We've extended our stay here by one day and will probably end up staying into the weekend.....waiting for our new purchase to arrive.    We're not going to hold our breaths, we'll enjoy where we are while we're here and then move on when everything comes together.

  1. I think that makes a good life philosophy, to relax and enjoy where we are. Don't know if you have plans to return to Park City -- if so, the High West Distillery makes a fabulous lunch -- and even though we're not ordinarily whiskey drinkers, their Campfire Whiskey is out-of-this-world, especially on a chilly evening.

  2. Really great pics of Park City, I so enjoy all the architecture and the wonderful detail of the movie theater ticket "booth". Your perspective shot of the old and new houses is perfect! The counte's story is one of my favorite, although I'm having a hard time picturing it in song. Hanging where you are until you want/need to move is the best.

  3. We really enjoyed Park City. We hiked a trail behind that ski lift Dave is walking out to see. Your photo after the bear on the bench is the bar where they filmed all the bar scenes for the TV show Blood and Oil when we were in Park City. It only last one season this past year. The rest of the show was filmed in the huge studio on your way into town. We ate in the bar so we could see what it looked like. It was neat to see it on TV. The filming was done in the middle of the night and the sign out front was changed.

Where are you staying? The park looks nice.

  6. Park City is a place we're looking forward to checking out. I really wanted to overnight on Antelope Island but fear of those bugs kept us away. One week down of our workamp gig and so far, so good. Craters of the Moon looks very interesting. We've only had a chance to do a quick drive thru, but I'm looking forward to going on a couple of ranger lead hikes. I'll keep you posted. Enjoy your time with friends and hopefully the new purchase will all work out ok. Can't wait to hear about it.
